Front Forks
« on: May 01, 2020, 20:24:28 »
Fellow bikers, I have a 14 plate 650 with the Front forks wanting to be tided up.
Having them resprayed would be a bit ott.
So what have you done, or recommend.
Thanks
V-T

Clean them? Between being manky and not painting I can't see many other options left.

Clean them.....

Yup done that.
The bike is A1, apart from the fork legs.
It looks like its showing some undercoat, or like road grit has got to one leg.???
Its the only thing that looks like wrong.
I suppose I can rub them down & respray them.
Just wanted to know what others had done.
Easy enough to remove wheel & guard, so might well do that.
I've done all the jobs swmbo had for me + even cut the grass.
Perhaps I'm just looking for something to do.  :)

Powdercoat them? Paint them yourself or as Rusty says, stickers..

(I can see an opportunity for FR to branch out here with Vstrom.co.uk fork stickers)

Yes Rusty
Both my previous Vstrom's have suffered with, what I can only describe as pebble dash paint work but only on the Right fork leg. Nothing had happened to the bikes to warrant the paintwork to deteriorate like it had. Other than all weather riding and lots of it.

Odd. You'd expect the left side to get more crap, from road edge, gutters, etc.

 :thumb: I've just ordered some.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

I am puzzled. Although a roll of tape is shown, the product description reads "This is a strip of tape; it is not supplied on a roll."  how does that work?

I think that's the sample Brocket. At the beginning of the sentence you quoted it says "Try this one out".
If you scroll through the photos in the ad you will see the the one telling you about the sample (Green one).

The tape is called "Helicopter Tape" and it really is used on aircraft. I bought a big roll from ebay but prior to that, a aircraft engineer gave me some. The ebay stuff from the site shown above is exactly the same but engineers just call it "Helitape".
I use it first on the engine cases on a dirt bike where my boots rubbed. It was perfect, never came off and never worn through.
Brockett, if you look at the ad again, it does give you the options as to what width and how much you want in the drop down boxes. The free sample patches that they send were perfect for my Brompton bike where the cables rubbed.  :dl_hyperhysteria:

If a stick had only one end, I'd still get hold of the wrong end of it.  lol
