Cheers, Paul. There's a thought. By the way, if you want the led reflector/brake light thingy, pm me somewhere I can post it to. Might reach you by Christmas, the way we're going.  lol

As an aside, I found it unnecessary to unplug the wiring from the loom. Bike on centre stand, cover tank and dash with thick cloth, unclip wires from side of steering head, bars off and resting forward on dash. Top nut and washer off, pinch bolts out, gentle tapping from underneath with a length of broom handle as close to centre as possible to keep yoke level. Yoke off, carefully turn it over and put it back on. Pinch bolts back in and nipped up, perfect stable platform for centre popping and drilling the mushroom headed security bolts. Also eliminates any fork twist possibility.
Will take a peep at the seat lock today. But not yet, it's only 05:45.

Those mushroom headed bolts you describe are the shear bolts. If I'd done the PDI you could have used a spanner. :thumb:

The "any key" scenario you describe would only unlock it, if the key has a transponder the engine still wouldn't start. Realistically how many scrotes would bother with sticking a key or screwdriver in, they'd rip it out first anyway. Fit a disc lock or summat.

Happy holiday. :)

Wafers out, springs out. All will be cleaned before reassembly. It's definitely the actual path of the key that's worn in the central cylinder. Hoping the seat lock will cooperate.

I've built a fair few sets of lock barrels for Honda luggage.
Simple to do, but you have a selection of different wafers with the Honda kit.

I've known people leave wafers out if they can't  be arsed to get it to fit... but not a few next to one another.

The other thing you can do is file the ends sticking out of the barrel flush with the barrel.

That's what I ended up doing, Mr. D. The seat lock, as expected, has a completely different barrel and cylinder, way too short when measured in situ, so no point even removing it to have a look. I cleaned everything, but it all came down to wear in the key path allowing the wafers to still stand proud. No choice but to get the buggers sanded down with a Dremel drum then dismantle it all again to clean all the metal filings out. Still plenty of meat on the wafers, it does what it's supposed to do, the key won't come out when the engine's running, all physical and electrical functions are as before. Graphited up, just redy for a ride out, now.
Ah, bollocks.

Absolutely. And I'm aware it's not fixed as such, just that it's working. For now.

Inspired by your efforts, I tackled the cylinder lock on the patio doors of the conservatory today. Since we moved in (14 years ago - ahem!) we've had to rely on one door only - I think we opened the other one once but 'lost' the key. Today, lost key that wouldn't work + hammer and old cylinder out, new one in. We now have two working doors with the same key  :fix:

Cheers for the inspiration Rusty  :thumb:
