Coolant leak
« on: April 21, 2020, 17:09:59 »
2012 650 - I've got a slight coolant/oil leak weeping from the hose where it connects to the oil cooler  (items 6, 8 in the picture). Is it likely to be just a matter of removing the hose, cleaning the connector and refitting will fix it, or from your experience is it likely to need a new hose? Is it best to clean it up with a bit of emery cloth or something else, and do you think a jubilee would be better than the original clip

If that connection is leaking I'd suggest replacing the pipe , it maybe split.

Obviously inspect it first but that connection isn't really under any real pressure , it may age related.

Would you use new clips of the same type or jubilee clips instead?

To be honest I'm a fan of jubilee clips but before you replace the clips make sure the pipe isn't split , a jubilee clip will make the leak worse.

I'd prefer to replace the hose and top the coolant up rather than a full drain. Do you reckon this is possible if I pull the hose (6 in diagram) from the cooler and leave the radiator cap on, or will it all it all drain out anyway?

You could if you are quick.

Leaving the radiator cap on will slow the flow but not completely.

Kwackboy was right, it was the hose. Can anyone send me a photo of the coolant hose routing on their glee please

Sorry, I've not been very clear. I've fitted a new coolant hose from the water pump to the oil cooler. This hose feeds INSIDE the other hose to the oil cooler, from the T connector on the radiator bottom hose. I thought I'd done it right, but I've seen others whereby it's the other way round, in that the hose from the water pump to the oil cooler goes OUTSIDE the one from the T connector. Are both correct, does it matter that that the coolant pipes touch. Also in Hose_2 the coolant pipe is very close to the thin cable  that goes to the(oil pressure sensor?) Hope this makes sense. If anyone can send me a photo of how their's is routed I'd be grateful
