Cruise Control for a 2018 DL1000
« on: April 13, 2020, 12:26:45 »
Looking at putting cruise control on my DL1000, anyone got any ideas or suggestions?
Anyone have any comparisons or would it be better to go to dealer and get Suzuki to fit one?

When you say cruise control, do you mean a basic throttle lock or a proper electronic system?

I don't Suzuki offer a cruise control apart from on the DL1050. I looked at McCruise years ago. They're made in Australia.

Same concept as above, it’s a friction throttle control. My friend has one on his bike and speaks very highly of it.

When I had my Pan I just used a very thick O-ring that rolled over the bar weight, and to use it you rolled it over into the gap between throttle tube and bar weight, simple, cheap and easy, even with gloves on.When you wanted to go back to normal, just roll it back.It came out of a Caterpillar engine gasket set when I was doing a rebuild, hence it was bright yellow.I kept a spare in my bike jacket pocket for years and never had to use it.

£5: try a 'Ryde Motorcycle Cruise Control Thumb Rest Riding Aid'
In my defence, she did leave me unsupervised.

Hi

I have used the 'Brakeaway' system for about 6 years now.
Expensive I know, but it works well.

Cheers.

I have the one from the RG link Ticker posted. It's OK for allowing you to remove your hand for a bit, but as it only holds the throttle you will slow down on inclines/speed up going downhill. I ended up removing mine over winter as it stopped working (it came loose) and I've not had time to refit it. I guess I have time now...

I've looked at these cruise control kits for my BMW and my old GTR.
I'm not liking the servo and other parts sitting out in the open, it looks terrible.

@TallPaul, spooky I've been reading into the McCruise and the Powercell version this week....
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

I looked into the mcCruise back when I had the Strom. I understand where Kwackboy is coming from with the servo. There aren't many places you can tuck one away on some bikes but others do lend themselves to it. With throttle by wire becoming more widespread I would have thought it will become easier to integrate by controlling the throttle servo motor directly.

@TallPaul, the KTM is ride by wire so the McCruise is just an extra ECU/CPU that fits under the tail section. It's plug and play apart from one plug that needs the pins plugging in as the plug is too large to fit through a gap with the loom attached.

Are you getting one TLP? That sounds like the perfect upgrade. :fix:

Just went back onto the mccruise website to read up some more. They offer a few bikes with just a plug in module with no need for a servo.

I use this blokes voice to dry paint and make my lawn grow. 434 quids, I don't know if I would have to pay VAT or any other duties.

Possibly you would have to pay vat but I've found the vat man to be a bit hit-n-miss with duties. I think it depends on how they are feeling when the parcel lands. Still worth it though, for the benefit it brings in terms of comfort. As a wise man once said to me not long ago "life's too short to be uncomfortable"...
