Petrol Smell
« on: April 07, 2020, 20:18:39 »
I was wondering if anyone has noticed a petrol smell after riding the bike and then stored a locked garage?
It's not something I've noticed before but the bike was serviced by a Suzuki dealer recently.
I've had a good look around but can't see anything and there are no drips on the floor.
Thanks a lots, cheers,
John

If the tank has been removed recently it might be worth checking the fuel hose is correctly seated and breather hoses aren't kinked.

Some members have complained in the past, of the short hose between the throttle bodies shrinking or the clamps securing the hose needing a tweak. https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=34175.msg340682#msg340682 and https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=34745.msg352226#msg352226 may give more insight.

Every bike I've had has a petrol smell if I put it away in the garage straight away after use.  I'd say it pretty normal, but worth a quick inspection to be sure.  My Vstrom and Vespa do it.
I tend to leave them outside until cooled down, or leave the door open for a while.

My BMW does it also.... Not all the time, just every now a then,  It's the vapours coming through the petrol cap .
