Good work Mick. :)
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

You're not far off there Alan, but we do hope to get out a couple of times (before the real warm weather kicks in) to give them a test run!
I've been hearing a Yonderman Full English calling my name for a month or two now!!

Looks like Friday to me then.I think I will go a bit more “main roadish”,as there is still a lot of run off water on all of the back roads around here.(Koch Hallam).I must admit although Yondermans food has been good for years, the new owners have improved matters and the coffee is VERY nice.

Road test done today.
Had a couple of hours ride today to test the jackets (Keis J501 & the Keis inner gloves).
I put the heated grips on 50%, to ensure I had the backup if required, I had my jacket set to low, Deb had hers set to medium, plus her inner gloves (no control over those, just plugged into the jacket). Both settings were more than enough on a day where the temperature was between 5* and 8*.

With the n/s low beam switched off, at anything over 3000rpm I was seeing 14v most of the time, occasionally 14.1 or 14.2, is that the grips or jacket thermostat switching???
At tick over, traffic lights etc. I would see 12.5v but as that would only be for 2/3 minutes I wasn’t too concerned.

With the n/s low beam switched on at 3000rpm and above I was seeing 13.5v.
I didn’t take a reading at tick over, but I’m presuming it would be around 12v or less!
I took a reading straight across the battery with a multimeter about two hours after arriving home and got 12.79v. so I’m thinking it’s been charging OK.
I’m still not sure about having the stator working quite that hard for long periods, right or wrong, so I think I might have a look at some LED headlight bulbs to save on some of the power draw.   :thumb:

I wouldn't worry with the LEDs, unless you really want them..?

With one headlight switched off (which was your original plan) it appears your charging system is coping well with the extra usage and as already said, your stator puts out the same whether you use it or not.

I agree with the Boy  Kwack regarding LED's. Another thing to consider (it's probably been mentioned before) is the extra load that will be put onto the reg/rec when you aren't using all your heated kit with the standard bulbs removed.

:text-goodpost: .   Yes, saving power on a good charging system is pointless and can be damaging.

However, you could check the usage of a good LED bulb as some of them have largish fans that require a decent amount of power to keep them cold , that's if you want to go down the LED route.

Is c.o.o.l and American word then ? Keeping something c.o.o.l isn't American, is it ..?

I don't worry about my charging. My voltmeter often goes down to 13.1 - 13.4 at 5,500rpm when it's very cold and I've been riding daily 2hrs each way to Liverpool and back and the battery is always fine. When I hit stationary traffic it drops to 12v but it's usually only short periods or I'm turning down the heated grips/jacket so I don't cook.

Thanks for those comments gents.  :thumb:
If I do go down the LED route I was thinking it would just be for the winter when the jackets would be used, then when they go back into the wardrobe for the summer I'd put the halogens back in.
I won't rush into it.  :)

It appears that the resting voltage of your battery is 12.79v so anything above that will put a charge into the battery.
My riding voltage with the heated kit on is also often in the low to mid 13v range and have had no issues to date, but if I know I'm going riding the next day and it will be cold I usually leave a trickle charger on over night.
