What would you replace a 'Strom with ???
« on: February 11, 2010, 21:05:07 »
Just what would you replace a 'Strom with ??? I was at the bike show at Excel last weekend and couldn't find anything remotely 'better' (better being more comfy, quicker, better handling). I don't want to change as I love me 'Strom, but if I did I'm stuffed ! Tried the Guzzi NTX, seat like a torture device, ditto the KTM. The GS's are, well, enough said... There's nothing out there !

I swapped my 02 Vee for a new Blackbird, but after a year of torture realised I'd made a big mistake, so I came back to a Vee again. I'd probably take a chance an a new Tiger if I really had to change to something else.

the CBF1000 is soooooboring, 2 friends have had them, no soul, typical Honda
Tried a Fazer1000 today with colour matched panniers, raised bars and fairing lowers. didn't ride it yet, but with try and get a test ride.
Also looking at a Bandit 1200, just to keep it in the Suzuki family. Going to look at a KTM 990 Adventure on Tuesday

They look great in the flesh, particularly in white. Not terribly comfy though for my lardy arse, but plenty of go !

They had a couple at the bike show last weekend, in red and white, the white one had a few trick bits on it. I don't like white bikes or cars normally but it looked really cool in white. Mind you it'll show the fingerprints from the enevitable repairs...

I have had a few adventure style bikes and even though I havent got a strom at this time there a hard bike to replace ..they don't excell at one thing but do everything reasonably well.

I had a r 1200 gsa ................what a contraption ,couldn't get on with it ......and when it wouldn't start coming off the boat at Santander that was the end of that.

The BMW 800gs are pretty good, very light , excellent fuel mileage, great handling......not as comfy as a strom but a good contender, I have one and have enjoyed it ,but its for sale ......a new house forcing that otherwise would of kept it .
I have a KTM 990 r version aswell, a must say a havent owned a bike that makes you smile as much ....very plush WP suspension, good handling , mega power and torque, but it just wants to go wild all the time, the strom is a better touring bike.

I have seen that multistrada thing, I can imagine its a good bit of kit Mega power , brakes and handling no dought, but £14 k gulp and am sure it will have all the Italian trickyness and high maintanence, not like a jap ...jump on and ride it, wouldn't mind a ride on one all the same.

It may be a case of the grass seems greener on the other side.....but its not , I have been there, and when I get over the costs of moving house and new mortgage ect. a will probably have another Strom.................as a second bike coz that Ktms just "wheelie fun" .

I've thought about this - not that I want to get rid of my Strom, but it obviously isn't going to last forever.

I'd probably go more "tourer" type - I quite like the look of the Yamaha GTR1400.

The FJR1300s get a good report from the lads in work but I quite like the look of the Bimmer R1200RT plus they've had rave reviews in the bike mags.

I had half a day on the 1200gs and I really didn't like it!!

Before I bough tthe Vee I was looking at the Kwak ZZR1400 to replace my ZZR 1100.  Mrs Eric  passed her test and bought the Wee (instead of the Fazer 6 we originally went to look at!), I liked it and plummed for the Vee, first time I rode one was on the way back from George Whites at Swindon.
No regrets and no plans to change just yet. :thumb:

Interesting thought what to replace it with, only had mine 4 mths but it is really growing on me, I don't think its the type of bike that you lust after but after living with it my appreciation goes up after every ride.  I part exchanged a Bandit 1250 and I have to say that the new 1250 engine is a cracking lump and I do miss its pwer but every where I went I always saw another and on the strom I don't which is quite cool.  I love the new multistrada but the price is way too much (for any bike in my opinion) and although the new Yam 1200 looks good its rumoured to be 12-13k - Ouch.

Interestingly (I think) the V Strom was one of the only bikes to increase its value in the trade this month !!
