I have finished tinkering with the deviation and all that's left is a road test and the MOT  :fix:

Then, I will get stuck into CJ.

I have said throughout this project that there may come a time when the restoration becomes non-viable, that has happened, CJ is now being broken up for parts  :bawl:

What have you bought that requires the parts?

Is it going to be used to 'upgrade' the quad?

Unfortunately not, it seems the long stay in Spain has had a real detrimental affect on gaskets, seals and generally anything rubber.

It is still serviceable but the effort outweighs the reward.

Well that is a shame but it can't be helped. I think you put a really good effort into trying to get CJ on the road again and I thank you for that.

It is interesting to me that it was probably the Spanish climate that did it for CJ. I had thought the Spanish climate was much less damaging than the British climate, however I guess that all the rubber stuff dries out in Spain.

I'm planning on buying a motorhome and keeping it in Spain for six months a year, November through to April. The idea is that I will fly to it when I want in the UK winter and go for a holiday there. I'm going to keep it in covered storage, which is much cheaper in Spain than it would be in the UK. This will have the benefit of keeping the sun off all the rubber seals and the kind of thing.

Anyway thank you for trying to get CJ on the road. I hope you have more luck with your future projects.

That sounds like a good plan you have there, Fitz Blitz! All the best with it (I may copy it someday :icon_wink:).

I've put quite a lot of research into it actually. It gave me something to do over the lockdowns.

If you aren't a Spanish resident then you are limited to keeping a vehicle in Spain for six months. I would keep it there for the cold wintery months in the UK and then have it in the UK for the better months.

Storage in Spain is surprisingly cheap compared, at least, with the South of England, where I am. I actually let out my driveway in Brighton & Hove for a lot more than I would pay to store the motorhome in Spain.

There are motorhomes and camper-vans now made that can carry motorcycles, so you could keep both in covered secure storage in Spain for quite a reasonable price.

Here is YouTuber Andrew Ditton (who rides a Triumph) reviewing a suitable camper-van:
