Any suggestions where I might find wiring loom sections, any decent breakers? There is a short section that goes to a connector behind the Rad then connects to the ignition switch. I would rather not have to hardwire it

I had to remove the filler cap (without the key), no problem, I have watched many films where lock picking is simple. So, using a paper clip, a few seconds later and it's off!

A few pictures from a bit of playing for an hour this afternoon. You know you are going to have problems when you have to Dremel a slot in fairing screws to get them out

A new battery arrived today and after a bit of improvisation (shorting clutch switch and cleaning side stand switch), I managed to get a readout on the dash. She has covered 18,300 miles.

For anyone interested, the cheapie Ignition and lock set I bought didn't fit. The tail was too short (I initially thought there should be a connecting piece between the barrel and the loom). Also, with it connected the indicators and horn didn't work. With the ignition barrel disconnected and some scary jumper wiring, everything works.

I am trying really hard not to get carried away until I have the ignition sorted and the tank cleaned and see if she runs. I have manually selected all the gears today and all seems well.

Dressed in my Indiana Jones get up, I stripped the front of the bike off to battle the remaining eight legged monsters and also to get to the Speedo. If she runs I will want to replace the KM/H inlay with a MPH one (the bike originated from Ireland).

I did get distracted for a while, I lubed up the switches both sides, I removed the plugs and dropped a little oil into each bore, the throttle tube was completely seized, I stripped that down expecting to have to replace it or the cables, but actually, a good clean and grease and all is well (very satisfying)

I have ordered twenty litres of white vinegar and some bicarb to clean the inside of the tank. If that fails there will be plenty of pickled onions available at the August meet.

Keep the pics and text coming Fat Rat it is very interesting, by the way there was a program on TV last week (Fantom Works) where they had a problem with rust in an old Austin cars fuel tank and they used two chemicals and left it over night and it was spotless in the morning, sorry I can not remember the chemicals but I thought it might be of interest to you and the program might be on I player ? it was about a car that went in the water and the Austin

Dozz, if you're needing any help, don't bother gsx1400.org. I asked them how far I could raise the forks through the clamps before it interferes with the mudguard as I want to lower it for SWMBO.
all I got was a load of stupid comments telling me to fit raising blocks to the shocks to make it steer faster. Not exactly the sort of answer I wanted.

Great if you want to bolt useless bling to your bike and hints and tips on cleaning on good weather days rather than riding the thing.

Andy, I was going to ask if you wanted any help, but you can leave me out of it after I saw the size of those spiders!
