Light indicator switch reassembly
« on: April 06, 2019, 16:51:36 »
Hi all. I've done a stupid thing. Headlights failed so took apart the left hand bar switch to clean the contacts. I've managed to lose o e of the little screws and now have a spare piece of metal I can't work out how it fits back. Anyone point me to an exploded view of the parts? I can't work out how it all goes back together. I know muppet!!
Any help gratefully received.
Baggy

Ps headlights still not working to add insult to injury

I can see helpful folk (like me) searching the sites for parts as they are usually shown in genuine parts catalogues.

All I can find is a view of the handlebar assembly, not an exploded view.

Perhaps others will have more success...........

I know how you feel, how often have we lost that screw or a spring suddenly jumps out or a piston circlip shoots across the garage.  :shy:
So how's it going so far then?

I have some spare screws from an SV switch assy that are probably the same. Yours free - pm me address.   :sunny:

Edited to add  I had SV headlight problem and replaced LH switchgear -  problem was actually headlight main connector corrosion.

Hope that helps.
If it has two wheels.. I'll ride it.

As mentioned, check the headlight connector, the one under the tank. The contacts are prone to corrosion, on mine you could feel the connector getting warm. I got round the problem by fitting relays to operate the headlights. Now, the only current through that connector is enough required to switch the relays. They take care of the greater current draw of the lights.

As already mentioned , it's the block connector for the switch gear. Follow your switch gear wires down to behind the radiator it should be there.

Aye, happens to us all at some time! I just hope it is that left hand side, as quite a few incidences of both headlights being fecked is down to the starter button circuit acting up, as Mr greywolf said thus:

The stock wiring gets overtaxed in time, especially for those who ride in inclement weather. Of those reporting problems.......

35.91% had a starter switch problem.       https://blacklabadventures.com/2012/02/19/start-switch-maintenance/
9.39% had a problem with the large connector under a rubber cover in the left cowling.
9.39% had a problem with a connector on the radiator shroud.
4.42% had a problem with the high/low beam switch.
7.18% didn't know the specific area.

Installing headlight relays early in the life of the bike heads off those problems. If they already exist, the problem area has to be fixed first.

So, sometimes starter can be working, but headlights have 'failed'.
