Ravetech
« on: October 26, 2018, 11:27:05 »
Hi all

Just wondered if anyone has the 2018 Ravetech GPS ram mount fitting on their DL650 ? I watched a YouTube vid on one being fitted (Bearded VStromrider) and it looks as though it can only fit on the top Windscreen  setting whereas I have my Windscreen  set to the lowest setting. Can anyone confirm this ?

Also, are they any good ? They look well made and solid on the photos on their website. I’m buying the Garmin Zumo 396 Sat Nav and the Ravetech mount looks ideal. Great price too

Thanks

I have one of these fitted to my vstrom and yes you can only fit the screen to the top holes, mine tends to vibrate a lot more than on my old one on my last vstrom when the Garmin is fitted, I think the the bracket is too thin and flexing. I intend to sort it out when I get 5 mins, but well made but could be better. I've not seen any others brackets yet that have the Sat Nav in line of sight and look stronger.  :thumb:

Admittedly mine's a Glee, but the Ravetech bracket I have is very solid. No problems with the product.
However, I don't use it - the Garmin just bounced around too much, so I 've now reverted to a Ram mount from the handlebar.
I think the problem would be the same with any mount that attaches to the screen mounting - the whole front end/fairing unit vibrates and, short of mounting the satnav direct to the fairing sub-frame, I don't see any way round it. A shame, because the Ravetech bracket positions the Garmin perfectly for me, unlike the current handlebar mount that positions it where it slightly obscures the dash display (mainy the left indicator telltale).

I have the Ravetech mount on my 2017 bike, and tend to agree that, sadly, more vibes are evident than my old wee's mount (homemade, not ravetech). I think it's because the gap between the mounting points is much greater, and this hasn't been accounted for in the mounts design. It needs beefing up a lot, because once the weight of a satnav is on, it twists when going over the bumps, or even just riding along, making the satnav bounce.
Having said that, I have read reports of other available mounts having the same problems.
I'm going to try adapting mine, and failing that make my own again from 4 or 5mm sheet alu

If you look at the pic posted above, by user650, he has 2 ramballs mounted in pre-drilled holes on the top 'ledge' of the mount. I am placing 2 bolts in those holes, extending downwards with a rubber stop against the top of the instrument binnacle. I'll post the results on here

Hi. Thanks for your replies. I also messaged Alan at Ravetech and he has confirmed that the bracket has now been updated so that it will fit on any position on the Windscreen  so therefore I can set it to its lowest setting. He’s also removing the Ravetech logo for me which is handy as I’m not a fan of having company logos all over my bike

I guess I’ll have to live with the vibration issue, a con against the pro of having the GPS mounted in line of sight rather than on my handlebars. The rubber stops sound like a good idea, keep us posted on how they perform thanks.

One more question, how much VAT and clearance did you have to pay on top of the original purchase & shipping costs ? And where is this paid ? Do UK customs hold the package and we have to collect & pay ?

Royal Mail (or whichever courier) will pay any import duty + VAT then charge you that plus their fee for doing so - last time I imported something Royal Mail's fee was £13.

I have one of these fitted to my vstrom

Can you tell me what ram balls / model you use on your bracket ? You have 2 extra ram balls there.
Thanks
Jorge

@laroze
I asked them to include the two extra ram balls when I ordered the bracket, It comes with one but wanted options. Drop them an email if your ordering a bracket and ask for a price.

Hi

I’ve just received delivery of my Ravetech GPS mount for the DL650. Delivery was ten days from Thailand, and I haven’t been charged any additional customs duty, VAT or admin costs. Well chuffed.

The mount looks great too, nice & sturdy, I’ll fit it to the bike this evening hopefully. I also had a couple of stickers in the package, got to love stickers  :thumb:

If you get chance stick a few pictures up so we can see what the new one looks like compared to mine. :thumb:

Cheers, just want to see if there are any mods made to help with the vibration before I make my own.  :fix:

Apart from the extra holes not much difference, unless it's been made using thicker material or braced, it will probably still vibrate.

So here it is fitted to the bike. It’s on its highest setting but I’ll probably lower it, I only put it higher as I use that Velcro strip to attach a power pack to charge whilst riding. I need to find a new home for the Velcro and power pack now !

I've received one yesterday.
The ball is over an inch in dia so doesn't fit any of my mounts.
Also a few runs in the finish.
My main concern is the pic,s above of the altered mound .
I have been sent the one that only fastens on the lower holes.
I need to do some digging      !
