Farewell Strommerdom, hello Honda (again)
« on: August 24, 2018, 12:50:26 »
Said farewell to my Glee, (63 plate, 33k, Voyager pack) in June. Hello to a 17 plate, 3,300 miles VFR800X Crossrunner, with the Honda Rider Pack (rack and top box, hand guards, Akrapovic end can, centre stand, heated grips, Tomtom satnav). New, they're £11,300 (before adding the bits). I paid £8,500 at Crescent Honda Southampton, who gave £2,800 p/x for the Strom.
I got tired of the increasing time I was having to spend fighting the battle against corrosion (I ride through winter), duff back now strong enough for a heavier machine, missed the power of my recent previous bikes: CBF1000 (reliable, fast, yet managed to be dull) and my 1000cc Varadero (superb but too heavy, hence move to the Glee). Reasons for the Crossrunner: weight is carried low, power, characterful engine is brill (especially with the VTEC), comfort, weather protection, and the fact that you can't accidentally go fast. It potters along beautifully unless you decide to go quick, unlike the 1050 Tiger Sport I tested.
All best to you all - it's been good being part of a friendly forum. :thumb:

Do stick around - would be good to hear your views of the new bike once you have some miles on it

OK. Will do. Only done about 1500 miles on it so far. Early impressions are that I need a Powerbronze touring screen with their very clever adjustable mount. Otherwise, I'm a very happy bunny.  :lala:
Glad traitors still welcome! Like I said, friendly forum.
