What's it worth?
« on: August 20, 2018, 19:19:30 »
I'm thinking of selling my V-Strom 1000 (DL1000A) but not 100% decided.

Bike is late 2016 with around 13,000 miles. Comes with Suzuki Panniers, Givi 50L top box, Centre stand & Hand Guards. Also has Sargent seat and Delkevic silencer. Original seat and silencer go with bike and both are in barely used condition. Bike is in excellent condition.

What would be a realistic asking price?

Looking at a big KTM and would like to sell my 690Duke and V-Strom privately to give me a bit more bargaining power. Can imagine the derisory offer I'd get trading 2 bikes in!

Cancel that, it seems they have sold out and now charge for this.

You can trade two bikes in, how much a dealer will pay just depends on how quickly the dealer thinks they could turn them around. I imagine a KTM dealer would be keen on the Duke, not so much the Strom...

Of course selling privately will give you more ££££s

Check autotrader for comparable asking prices, and eBay for recently sold prices to give you an idea.

There's one on ebay for £6399 with 4.4k miles on it from a dealer, so I'd guess you'd be looking at £5.5k for a trade in and £5.8 to £6 privately . I'd sell the extras separately to recoup some of their cost, they don't usually add to the selling price, they just make them more desirable.

I would say Simstrom is about spot on. I was offered 4.5k trade in for my Veek last week, its a 15 but with 23k miles. But also two dealers here didn't want it because of the mileage. I've traded two in for one before,  just depends on the deal but unfortunately your bikes are not popular models. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. Just confirmed what I was thinking. I might stick with the V-STROM for the time being. Watch this space :icon_wink:

I wanted to change mine to but the trade in is low and anything fancy needs a lot of money puttin to it so looks like it's stayin too, trouble is next year there'll be 30k on it, not many will want it then.
At the weekend I was out with the mates, multi 1260, gs12lc and the new tiger 12 and felt a bit left out! Kept up  no trouble just felt like the poor mate, which I guesd I am! lol

I was offered between £4600 and £5200 trade in on a 10k plus bike at two dealers, and the £4200 up to £5200 from the we buy any bike type buyers, my bike had 5500 miles and was a 2015 Model (DL1000A).

Hello Old Git

If you do decide to punt the Strom without the bling, I'd be interested in the Give box & mounting plate plus the hand guards if they are not Suzukis own ones (I've got them and they are pants )

Where are you thinking of getting the KTM from? The dealer in Perth seems to get nothing but poor feed back once you've spent your wad on a bike!

PS - you going to Chunder in the Glens this weekend?

I seem to be on a different trajectory, my 2010 tiger has done 21,000 miles I'm looking forward to the next 80,000, which will take me passed my 75th birthday or see me buried...I can't see any reason for change

I'm undecided about the V-STROM and I didn't realise that thunder in the glens was on. Thanks for the heads up, I stumbled into it a couple of years back by mistake. I won't make the same mistake again  :)
