Veek bar risers
« on: June 11, 2018, 21:48:15 »
I'm looking to raise the bars on my AL8 to ease some long distance shoulder pain, the only bike specific ones I can find are 25mm touratech ones for the 2014 model at £60.

I don't mind paying for them but I'm trying to figure out the maximum rise I can aim for without stressing the lines and cables up to my handle bars, I've seen posts that mention a £10 M&P product but there is no information on the website and I've been unable to get in touch with them as no one was answering the phones today.

I'm guessing the 2014-16 models should have similar cable and line length to mine but any information or possible options would be greatly appreciated.

Try here... https://www.mandp.co.uk/universal-handle-bar-raiser-riser-kit.html

Don't know about the 1000s, but I've a pair of these fitted to the 2014 650 and they fit OK.. the cables won't stretch  much further, though!

Those are the ones I found when I searched the forum but sadly I can't find any information regarding hole distance or how much height they add when fitted.

They will fit all VStroms apart from the DL1000 ALX8 as the taper bars are a different diameter.

In work we fitted 30mm straight raisers to every model DL650 and 1000 up to the 18 model XT.

On other bikes I have used these, more options and cheaper, can be bought in standard and fat bar sizes.

Thanks for the info mr_diver I'll risk those M&P risers for now and report back with my experience, if things go well and it looks like I have more cable to spare I'll look into some 30mm risers later.

I finally got through to M&P and they confirmed 25mm for those black £10 risers, guess I'll find out when they turn up.

They are 25mm.
I've bought a few pairs for various bikes.
They great for the money but have required modification for the Yamaha's.

After receiving the M&P risers I can't recommend them what so ever, they have multiple issues and appear to be unfinished.

The risers I received looked like forged alloy, one was painted silver and the other was bare metal, both risers required modification to fit, I'd say they were meant to be machined down by 1mm on all surfaces before they were packaged but this clearly didn't happen as there was no way they were suitable for a 22mm bar so I was forced to work on them until they were a close enough fit for the job and finally painted them black.

I havent used the bike yet but if they ease my shoulder pain I'll definitely be buying a set of SW-Motech risers to replace these..

I think I would have sent them back. M&P have been good for me on the odd time I've used them. Those risers sound to be well below the standard expected.

I have generally painted the MandP cheapie risers because the finish is what you would expect for a tenner, however, I have always received a matching pair

Yes. Not the usual standard there.

I've repainted a few pairs, but mainly to match silver bike yokes.

Yamaha bikes required elongation of the holes. But other than that went straight on.

I'd have contacted M&P.

too right, I'd be a bit worried about using something as critical as risers if they looked at all dodgy. there's some chinese ones around which are just cast, and tales of them giving way...think I read this on the stromtroopers forum?
Could have been 'fake news' of course!

I understand but these were never going to be a permanent solution, the plan was always to pay for a better product after a trial run to see how the extra height affected my riding.

Modifying them was the quicker option rather than dealing with the turn around time of a return, plus there was always a chance of getting a subpar replacement.

Just spoke to M&P and they told me they've had a few people complain about the same issue within the last month.

I sent them some pictures I took before applying mods and paint and they've agreed to send me another set.

The second picture is not upside down, I removed the top clamp and loosely fitted a riser on top of the bar to check the fitment before I completely removed the bars.

Let's try again! The risers are here now and appear to have missed a couple of processes? They do not fit the bars properly or into the yoke clamps and are unpainted. I have been in touch with Busters (MandP?) who have agreed to take them back and refund. If this is a known problem, why still ship the things? Waste of time and money all round!

It's the law of averages. Not everyone will moan and demand a refund. Some will just mutter about it and bin them. Others have no clue what a useless piece of shite looks like and will use them anyway.
