GEARING
« on: May 06, 2018, 09:41:15 »
Hi All. I am not great with threads so if I started one that is out there sorry too old to learn , I not long bought a 2013 650 and compared to some of my other bikes its miles better , the gearing is good enough for off road but I will not be doing that so has anyone went up 1 teeth on the front sprocket or down 1 or 2 on the back as when I am in  in 6th gear I am looking for another gear like my Versy,s this was common so I went up a teeth on the front and it lowered the revs in top gear and no problem pulling away and helped the fuel and got a few more mph for touring which is mostly what I bought the bike for as I have another bike for town riding , any help would be appreciated .

I seem to remember others have gone up one on the front, that should give you all you need, and would be my first move.
Try to get a high quality sprocket, preferably a Suzuki one if they are available.
Often sprockets are hardened all over, this can cause gearbox output shaft spline wear over time, so it is better if the sprocket wears at the splines rather than the shaft.
This is more of an issue with off road bikes, but is still applicable to road use.

Thanks for your reply , I was not sure if Suzuki left enough space for a larger sprocket and chain on front for the spin cycle once again thanks.

You're trusting the site that lists brake fluid and disk locks as fitting my TS185?  :icon_no:

Hi Yanky. Standard is 15 tooth going up 2 is no problem I do a lot of touring & it definitely suits my riding style. It's drops the revs to just under 4500rpm at 70mph for relaxed touring. Got my sprocket off eBay 17 tooth renthal (part number 289-525-17 renthal).  When I bought my Wee 4yr ago the person who had it before done a lot of touring abroad & went for the 17 tooth option so I didn't know any better. so when it came to changing my chain & sprockets I thought I would try the standard 15 tooth & couldn't get away with it at all it felt far too revvy for my liking so I've went back to the 17 & happy days.
