Service Intervals 2016 V-Strom 1000?
« on: May 05, 2018, 19:18:06 »
I'm sitting looking at the DL1000A owners manual and the maintenance chart in particular. It's a UK bike in the UK with close to 11,000 miles that was last dealer serviced at 7,500 miles.

There are 2 maintenance charts, one is unnamed and the other is "For Europe & Oceania Countries"

The unnamed chart seems to specify an air filter, oil filter and oil change at 11,000 miles, or every 36 months.

The "For Europe & Oceania Countries" chart says 22,500 miles for air filter change or every 36 months, 15,000 miles for oil filter and oil, or every 24 months.

Basically the service intervals for the unnamed chart are roughly half of "For Europe & Oceania Countries" chart (3.5K/7.5K).

It may be a really stupid question as it does seem blatantly obvious that the bike is in Europe but I misread it earlier and questioned the dealer about it and he seemed to imply that the bike should be serviced at 11,000.
Is the service interval every 7.5K on UK bikes?

If indeed the service intervals are every 3.5K instead of every 7.5K I won't be getting it dealer serviced to preserve the warranty. It pisses me off giving it to them every 7.5K as it is when I've been servicing and repairing all my bikes for 40 years without a problem.

I understood the 2014 onward DL1000/650s were changed to service every 7.5k mile in the UK.

You don't need to change the the stock iridium spark plugs every 15,000 miles as the schedule states either. Consensus is that they are good for at least twice that distance.

I'd still do an oil change half way through the 7.5k.
I have never let any of my bikes go over 4k before I drop the oil , 7.5k is to much in my opinion .

I was considering this as well - doing the higher freq 1/2 interval change. Just for oil+F. Then you read examples like this below at 7K intervals and wonder whether its worth it.
