Fork seal and oil renewal DL1000 L4
« on: April 26, 2018, 08:46:22 »
Hello everyone

I'm replacing my fork seals and oil on my DL1000 L4 ABS but looking in the manual specifications it doesn't say how much fork oil there is in each leg only info is how much front fork stroke there is which says 160mm.
Does anybody know the correct level or amount of fork oil needed please?

Thanks in advance

Mark

Usually fork oil is measured in CC's when listed in service manuals but as long as you make sure to get all the air out of the fork legs before you set the air gap you'll have the correct oil level anyway.

Wilbers list 2L of 2.5w oil with a 135mm air gap for standard length fork springs, its likely you won't need the full 2 litres but it just means there is definitely more than 500ml in each leg.

I changed my front springs to hagon. They said I needed 2ltrr of oil but I only ordered one and it was enough.  Though hagon recommend a 135 mm (5w) air gap whereas oe is 120mm.

Silkolene says 569ml per leg.

But setting the air gap is the critical thing.

Thanks for the replies, my manual doesn't state anything about fork air gaps or how much oil is needed so I'll go with the 120mm as suggested for the USD forks of the Strom

Cheers

The 120mm should be fine.  I just changed my springs from the hagon back to the oe springs. The air gap was 135mm wth the hagons, I never changed that, all seems OK, maybe a bit softer but not much. You'll be OK anywhere from 120-150mm. I'd use 5w oil, Suzuki's part number doesn't tell you what weight the oe oil is. Good luck
