DL1000 steering damper
« on: April 13, 2018, 22:30:51 »
Hello blokes. Anyone managed to install one of those chinese steering dampers to DL1000?? Any installation instructions?? I couldn't find anything on the web so far. I'm thinking about installing it from long time but the price of scotts damper ($499) really bothers me. Those chinese ones are going for £30-40 and from reviews on youtube, they are working just fine. Any damper will be better than no damper, and I know stroms are susceptible on shimmy. Any thoughts about this?

That is the only video I could find, but no installation instructions:

To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

He might not need the damper if he didn't have 17 miles of wire hanging off his left fork leg. "Rule Number One" includes auto-electricians, obviously.

I don't care about bloke cables or other stuff. I'm only interested of damper which will fit my klv (dl1k) and doesn't cost a fortune. So far no luck finding.

If you feel you need one & it's only £30-40...

It shouldn't be too hard to fit  :fix:

Maybe a fork brace might be more beneficial,if the bike has conventional rather than upside down forks.
Steering dampers are silly prices sometimes, but those cheap ones will be about as good as filling your steering head with treacle in the long run. :stirpot:

Greywolf had a steering damper fitted to his bike. There are more details of that on stromtrooper.

GW had a very fancy / pricy steering stabiliser, as I recall.

Yes he did have an expensive one (Scotts) on his V Strom as he said he had a tank slapper many years ago, and never again.
