Hi All, On my last ride out it was brought to my attention that my legs were a little more bent than usual whilst riding my wee and that it was possibly due to having different dogbones fitted as they were not the standard silvery metallic colour with a bit of oil and road crud mixed in but in fact a grey colour. When I got back I got out the trusty steel rule and measured the dogbones centre to centre and they measured 140mm which I believe is the standard measurement. Also the preload is set to 4. So does that mean it could be a lower seat and if it is how do I know, does it say on it somewhere. Makes me wonder what the last bloke looked like coz he was over 6' and I'm 5'9"? Any help appreciated thanks.

Well I have a Glee with the lower seat, but bizarrely that one has no distinguishing markings so I imagine yours will be similar. The lower seat looks a bit more 'scooped out' where you plant your arse, but I imagine it would be hard to tell unless you've got one of each type in front of you. You'll be able to find the manufacturer's spec somewhere as to what the respective seat heights are; it's quite hard to measure them accurately in practice, and the difference between the normal and low seats isn't that great; but at least it should give you an inkling.

If the current seat's actually standard, maybe consider a higher one?

Also, if you didn't notice the issue until someone pointed it out... does it matter!?

Yeah suppose it does make sense really. Both my feet DO feel firmly on the ground and I suppose I wouldn't have noticed if like you say, 'someone pointed it out'. Thought about acquiring one of those air hawk seat pads for long distance comfort and maybe sit me up a bit higher and see if that made a difference, but I'm happy at the moment, see how things go when the weather eventually picks up and I get out on it more regular.

Are you sure of the measurements, a little goes a long way.

Stock dogbones are 140mm between hole centers

The preload was set to 4 as well. If I did that on mine I would struggle to touch the floor :insert short arse icon:

It might be a standard seat, it looked low that's all, it's why some fit a 1000 seat to lift it about 25mm.

yeah that's what end in tears bloke said, sorry his name escapes me, he bought a DL1000 seat for his wee and after sitting on his it did feel higher. Anyway cheers Paul.

If you feel that your knees are too, bent try a Cymarc footrest lowering kit as advertised on this site. I have them, very relaxing.

Or get someone like Tony Archer to rework your seat. I had 50mm (2" in old money) added to my seat for extra height. I also had it made wider too with a bit of a step up to the pillion perch too. He has done a few seats for people on here.

So with the lower footrest does it affect ground clearance much, and what kind of price is it for the seat reworking etc, cheaper than getting a second hand vee seat? Thanks for the seat info by the way Loz

I found that lowering my foot pegs put my size 13 toes too close to the floor on adverse cambered corners but that can be countered by raising the rear suspension. The seat mods to my wee cost £80 from Tony Archer but you would need to add carriage charges too. I dropped it off and collected it again so didn't get to find out what the postage charges were.

The DL1000 (proper version) has a slightly wider seat than the DL650 (proper version), this was always more comfortable for me
