my new ECU has been with the dealer for 10 days now.
I've got places to ride, great weather here, and don't want to take it off the road just yet, even for one day (it's the first they've done so they want the bike all day).
And with a 1,500kms 3 day ride to and around the Snowies starting tomorrow they'll have to wait till it suits me if they can't manage it on a ride-in/ride-out in an hour basis.

Had ours changed Friday (15th Dec)  Felt a lot less `agricultural` on the way home.  Yet to see what, if any, fuel economy difference.

Same with mine - didn't seem as 'raspy' when accelerating but need to do a decent run

Very likely a complete new map. Rather than just a tweak to address the described symptoms.

Great that Suzuki have started to address this issue.

Restores my faith in the bikes and most likely other potential purchasers of new and used.

Perhaps the owners they are contacting is derived from the DVLA's list of registered keepers?

My thinking is this. Changes to an engines fueling/emissions is not allowed by manufacturers once its passed approvals and sold to a user. If it was they might sell you a clean as clean but strangled engine that met all the regulations. Then sell us a beautiful running performance but "dirty" software or ECU upgrade after. I'm thinking Suzuki would have to apply for further emissions approval to introduce this new ECU/ECM on the affected bikes.

Perhaps an "emissions correction recall" rather than "safety recall" quietly gets them the list of current keepers from the DVLA. Clearly VW obtained such a list for its diesel engines but not so quietly.

I eventually got mine done today and I must say your comments describe my thoughts , even on my brief 4km run home from the dealer.
I did a 550km ride yesterday pre-change and will have to do another ride to see the differences.
I doubt fuel consumption will be better since it is already excellent. Yesterday yielded 25.1 kilometres per litre even including 50/60 kms of gravel and 60 kms of suburban.

My riding mate just texted me to say his took 18.9 litres after filling at 474 kilometres.
He would have snuck in 500 kms (but would have been left dry nowhere near fuel).
- oh well, a fuel bladder with a few precautionary litres next time

Just came accross this thread after seeing another post by a new owner who asked questions about recalls. My ecu ends in code j00, so I guess I'll be on the phone to Suzuki Daventry in the morning. Was hoping to get my new exhaust & power commander fitted but will wait for the ecu to be replaced first.

Just called Suzuki, they didn't say my ECU needs replacing but said that they need to run checks on the bike and if those checks show that it has 'issues' then they will follow the Suzuki guidelines accordingly.
I asked what checks and they said they need to check TPS settings and a few other things first before the ECU is replaced.

Now, I'm thinking they will just change the ECU but are not wanting to say that it's as simple as that as they don't want to say it's a fully fledged 'recall'?

What have others experienced when calling Suzuki to discuss?

I received the same letter as Vera posted earlier in this thread, however my ECU had already been changed before Suzuki issued the letter. IMO if you have an 000 ECU it should be changed for an updated one.

The ECU recall states:

The bike must be inspected buy a Suzuki trained technician to identify 'if' any replacement parts are required.

If parts are required, they can then be ordered via a Suzuki recall code under the VIN number for the bike in question.

The updated ECU's under the Recall can't be a stock item and have to be ordered.

So the owner can either take the bike and bring it back to have the recalled parts replaced or leave the bike with the Dealer if both parties agree to either situation.

Generally this is how most recalls are handled with Suzuki.

Zipcodeuk they done the same thing to me back in October 15, had the bike a week but you'll get the new ecu OK. If not say you think its a safety issue as your bike is a staller and if you get hurt or cause an accident you'll be connecting your insurance and a solicitor. Worked for me.

I really don't understand why dealers are turning away work.

It may be free to the end user (rider/owner) but Suzuki provide the parts and pay the Dealer to do the work.

Dealers don't like warranty work as a rule. They don't make as much money. They normally dictate prices to the customer. For warranty work, Suzuki dictate the price to the dealer.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Thanks for the inputs. I'll call them up and see if they can give me a loan bike for the few days / week they'll need my bike for.
I totally understand why Suzuki don't like warranty work as yes.... it doesn't pay them. I have a close friend who used to work for a piagio dealer (Aprillia, Guzzi, MV). and on warranty work, Piagio used to pay them £15 per hour for labour. Not exactly going to inspire them to want to go out of their way really.

I didn't buy a Veek and I've never regretted it. Nothing about this ECU fault inspires me to change my mind.

Strange thing to write!
I don't regret not buying any of the thousand bikes I haven't bought   :lala:
