If you are still the original owner you will get the letter, what happens if the bike has been sold to a new owner? will Suzuki dealers be able or willing to check by vin number if the ecu needs changing?

We are the third owner.  When had it serviced at Dealer just after buying they registered the bike with Suzuki and we got a very nice headover come through the post along with registration letter.

I actually called Suzuki direct before bike was swapped to us and they used the reg/vin to tell me that the other ercalls had been done and the fact ours fell into this recall (See other thread)

No I discussed this today with my dealer and cannot contact new owner through DVLA because of data protection act.
Do it today as there may not be a tomorrow.

Live in Rothley, Leicestershire.

thanks to this thread I checked with my local Sydney dealer after checking my ECU serial number.
As a result there's a new one coming free of charge although I haven't received formal notification from Suzuki. I'm not sure it'll make any difference to my bike but I'll take it.
Pays to ask!

Got my letter today even though had mine changed last year do I still need to ring and take it in for them to check or just ignore?

Very poor that Suzuki never updated records of the ones that were changed before their safety recall

Got the letter this morning . . . . . . shortly after I'd talked to a localish dealership, who confirmed that my bike was on the list  :happydance:

The dealership asked for a photo of the ECM (as they call it - to me it's an ECU) to confirm the part number I presume, along with a note of the bikes current mileage.

Now all I've got to do is re-build the bike and get it sorted for the road . . . . . . . . in the spring.

It's not Suzuki failing to update the owner records.

It's the dealers that should notify Suzuki when they sell a used bike.

But only a Suzuki dealer can update this... so if you bought it privately or from a non-Suzuki franchised dealer your bike's owners records will not get updated.

As an owner you can however notify Suzuki that you no longer own the bike.

But you would expect Suzuki to have on file those of us who have already had the ECU changed. The fact they have sent me a letter reeks of bad management, if they can't record this simple thing on their database who knows what else they fail at

As a recall- all the VIN numbers in the affected range will have computer generated letters sent out to the owners on file.

Those who have had ECU's replaced under warranty would not be deducted from the Recall notice.
Warranty replaces new for old via the orignals part number unless other wise discontinued AND superseeded.

Warranty and Service (recall) Bulletin are considered two very different processes.

What! Everyone with the models named should be getting those letters. Many in this thread have already mentioned it. Keys have to be reprogrammed to the new ECU for the immobilizer system to work.

If Suzuki are now admitting it is an issue, I wonder if they will pay for a replacement end can that got scuffed when mine stalled at a junction and for my friends wing mirror that broke when I toppled over on to his bike.

Letter arrived on the 4th

Sent dealer photo of ECM the following day, 5th, asking them to order in the replacement.

E-mail from dealer on 6th saying that the ECM is in - now that's service for you  :thumb:

Just got to get the bike down to them via a local dealer who will drop it off on his way south, then pick it up when travelling north = sorted  :lala:

Spent 4 hours last night re-building Big Bird in prep for her little trip.

Won't get to ride her again till April (far too large for playing on the slippy stuff is Big Bird  - that's what the F800GS is for  :xmas-smile:), so it'll be like having a new bike to play with all over again

I have not received a letter, and my address is registered with Suzuki, but I already have the new ECU so I'm not too fussed.

I believe you'll find the number is 32920-31J00. That should be replaced with a 32920-31J02.
