LED Lights - What are your thoughts.
« on: October 22, 2017, 18:21:15 »
I've been thinking of getting some LED lights for my 2016 650 V Strom ABS, and have come across these on Amazon, they do seem to have good reviews ( all 2 of them  lol ) just wondered if any of you blokes out there have these fitted,  and if so what are your thoughts on the ones listed below.

I had a pair of those on my bike, Lincsman. I found that the screw supplied to fasten the lug to the light unit was too long. It bottomed out before the lug was tight in the lamp unit. No problem, I just filed the screws down a bit. Good lights though. If my next bike hasn't got auxiliary lights already fitted then it will be having a pair of those. Enjoy!

Thanks for that tallpaul, this good to know, also the fact that you like them as well is a big bonus.
Whilst almost £30 isn't a major amount of money, you still don't want to give it away for a load of junk. But I have a problem spending £200+ for a set of lights, so I hope that these will last OK.

Just a little tip on shortening a bolt. Thread a nut on first. When you saw or just file shorter, finish with a file and chamfer the cut end. Even if a burr was present at the thread edge, removing the nut will open it up.

In the absence of a correct sized die nut, I always do that.
My first lights had separate blocks like those and shook themselves apart. The current Bikevis ones are an all in one casting. But a lot dearer.

I've found it's always best to do this method, far less hassle.

I had a pair of those on my bike
I know this subject for some must be  ZZZZZZ, but did you fit a relay, as it says the following.

"These lights are small and compact but throw out a lot of light and due to the low wattage.
It can be used on any vehicle without having to upgrade your electrical system.
They can be wired directly into your headlight dipped beam, or can be used on a separate switch".

I want them on all the time so I'd want them wired to the dipped beam, so won't be using another switch. If a relay is needed, what one should I buy. I really don't fancy frying my electrics. And I take it that the red wire goes to the live wire on the dipped beam, and the black to earth somewhere.
Again sorry for the repetitive question

I wouldn't add a Relay specifically because of the additional low wattage lights, it would add no value. Whether or not it is a good idea to have a Relay controlling the Headlights generally is another topic  :smirk:

These lights are really effective as drls. However,  the light pattern is more of a cone shape so if you run them at night you need to angle them down or you'll dazzle everyone on the road. If they are wired up to the dip beam, it may be a good idea to include the switch so you can turn them off if needed

Well they're on and they're unbelievable. I've been out tonight, and the spread of light is fantastic. Nobody flashed me, so I know that I have the angle right. Took about 4 hrs to put them on, with all the bodywork ( and Tea brakes  :) ) that has to come off.
Can I just add a, Thank you" to all that gave me very good advice, it's very much appreciated.
Here are 2 pictures. If you're thinking about getting these LED's, then think no more, get them, they're brilliant.

Might think about a rear light bar or something like that now, don't like the idea of a single bulb at the rear.
Anyone done a mod to their rear end  lol that they're happy with.  :thumb:

I have.

Yes my arse does look big.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.
