How easy to mod a Sv exhaust to fit a glee?

Hi just wondering if anyone has done this.
I like the idea of a lower exhaust...

I spent much of each day reading V-Strom related material on several different web sites. I don't remember anyone ever doing it. The two bikes have totally different frames. While the engine attachment would be the same, the pipe routing will be totally different. The different pipes may try to occupy the same space as the frame in some places and be too far away in others to make an attachment.

Also, exhaust systems are tuned like organ pipes. People haphazardly making changes to them will likely be creating a sour note. Scavenging will suffer and also engine performance as a result. There is a lot of fluid dynamics involved and exhaust modifications are best left to fluid dynamics engineers with the knowledge and equipment to do a proper job.

Might I comment to Mr GreyWolf the Petter Harmonic diesel engine? ...  a largish uniflow-scavenge two-stroke diesel that doesn't rely on crankcase compression, or an external "blower", for scavenging, but uses instead the "organ pipe" dynamics of tuned length exhaust. (Actually, it does have a changeover valve to use crankcase compression for starting purposes, but the "harmonic" effect is used at the normal running speed). Perhaps the ultimate application of the Kadenacy effect?

Two strokes have often relied on exhaust tuning for scavenging as they don't have exhaust valves.

Not viable then, will have to have a good look at the current exhaust and see what is possible.

Talking about strokers, my first large bike was one of the last LC350's, in white and blue A438GPF.
Hope to find it one day....

Don't be put off so easily Dave.

Perhaps instrad of basing a system on sv pipes, why not use dl headers, chop the silencer off & get someone to make a link pipe that allows a generic can to be mounted in a position of your choice?

Thanks hondaman, its kind of what I am thinking and then mounting the can off the pillion footpeg...
May even look at Delkevic manifold / pipes for the single exit by the swingarm...

I shouldn't be so negative about home built exhaust systems. Not having the exhaust system tuned to the exhaust characteristics of the engine shouldn't lose more than 2% of the stock system's power and maybe not even that much. You'll probably never notice it.

107 rwhp, 12% transmission loss gives just under 120bhp at the crank. Stock gave 95 at the crank.

I must be lucky.

But is that gain all due to the plumbing or did you tweak elsewhere? eg your "hot" map....

I do have a decatted oe system in the fs section that is cheap & would save chopping your stock system, give me a shout if interested.

The "hot map" only tricks the ECU when the engine temp is below 81 degrees, the "cold map" which it replaces dumps in heaps of fuel, retards the timing and generally makes for a very unpleasant experience. The TRE removes the ignition restriction in 1st, 2nd and 6th gears.

What's your power curve compared to stock? And most importantly did you test stock system on the same dyno, preferably within short period of time. I've seen dynos giving 110% stock power on 20 years old stock engines ;)

The green trace is the standard 38mm unequal length primary pipes leading into an "X" collector with a balance pipe with dual 50mm cans.

The blue trace is the full 50mm system with the Aprilia collector and a TLS ECU.

The red trace is the same system with the Cagiva ECU.
Unfortunately I didn't have it checked bone stock.

I subsequently made a single sided system with a balance pipe and Helmholtz chamber, 63mm from the collector into a 63mm can. The never to be trusted seat of the pants "dyno" feels like more midrange with little trade off at the top end. It will hit the limiter in the first five gears, I'm not skilled or brave enough for the limiter in 6th.

I totally agree with you regarding optimistic dyno's, I'd like to think Paul's at Dynobike is near enough.
