Buying 2015 DL650 Glee any advice?
« on: September 27, 2017, 15:53:56 »
I am an owner of a 2007 DL650 non ABS with 78,000 trouble free miles on it but now am considering an upgrade and intend viewing a 2015 model with 9000 miles on it
Is there anything specifically I should look out for on this model as opposed to my 2007 model?
Thought about going for a brand new 2017 but couldn't justify the price difference for my needs
Besides the 2015 is fully loaded with all the luggage & accessories that I'll ever need
Any input appreciated
Thanks in advance

Tom

Hi

I'm in a sort of similar situation, I did wonder about getting a 2017 V Strom 650 or the face lift 2011 - 2016 version.

Currently I do not have a V Strom of any age and do miss the economy and fun the V Strom gives allied to a do anything type of approach. It does everything well, commuting , touring, supermarket trip.

One thing I didn't like about my old V Strom was the wide colour matched pannier - my fault really - I kept scraping them as I only put them on on the odd occasion so didn't remember the width; in normal use a top box was fine for me. I think the 2017 side panniers from Suzuki aren't so wide?

I had a 2013 model and to be honest if it's been maintained there are no real problems. I found the 2013 model a real step up compared to my old 2008 V Strom.

I'm still making up my mind on this one. Happy hunting !

Dave

This is a good time to be bike hunting.
Check dealers too, I got mine having see it in my local shop, it was one they'd registered to achieve their dealer bonus. Eleven months old but with only 2 miles on the clock, it was basically a new bike, and £1500 less than list.  :)
Wherever you go, make a silly offer, they can only say no.

I think Suzuki still have the low rate PCP deal on and that applies to pre-reg bikes as well. That's what I did, under £100 per month

All the twin headlight bikes can benefit from installing headlight relays. There is a history of failure of the wiring connectors and switch contacts without them. Another common problem is failure of the charging system stators, especially on K3 and later Vees and K8 and later 650s. L2 and later 650s like the probably L5 you are asking about had their stators recalled which should hopefully handle that. The Glee in stock condition is a little better all around than the Wee except for fuel range. The Glees slightly better fuel economy isn't quite enough to offset it slightly smaller fuel tank.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Ensure you take preventative measures on all the electrical connectors, especially behind the radiator/left panel.

Yes. Dielectric grease, or even better, ACF-50 grease which adds anti corrosives as well as sealing out water is a must for anyone riding on salty roads. All connections should be treated but especially the ones behind the radiator top shroud and in the left side of the fairing.
