DL1000 new owner advice
« on: September 25, 2017, 11:18:49 »
Hi all
I have had my bike now for two days, and am really starting to enjoy it (it took a little getting used to after my Honda Blackbird). It is fitted with a Sargent seat, and I feel like I want to sit further back. I am considering fitting the lower arms to the rear - what happens at the front of the bike; I am taking it that the front has to be lowered in equal amounts? If so how is this done. I am also considering fitting the footpeg lowering kit - are there any negatives with this? Finally, it is fitted with an MRA touring screen which not only seems to create an immense amount of buffeting, but is also direct in my line of sight. The two layers of tinted Perspex really affect my vision - I find I am lifting up or reaching to look over it. The spoiler and screen are at their lowest settings. I am considering the clear Givi Airflow as a replacement; is this money well spent as it is quite expensive?
Lots of questions I know, but I am keen to get the bike right and really start to rack up some miles on it
Thanks in advance
Mark

You didn't say what year the bike is.
I owned 2014 DL1000 and now I have 2017 DL1000.
As for the screen, for me Givi Airflow was the only solution on both bikes. I guess that was the upgrade that worth the most on the bike. Can't get it wrong with that one.
Pegs lowering kit is great for me. Had it on 2014 and now I have it on 2017. My knees love it. The only thing was, I removed hero blobs from my pegs and put Allen screws in their place. It's like having shorter hero blobs now.
I've never lowered my bike but as far as I know, if you lower the rear you should lower the front the same amount. If you don't feel comfortable to doing it yourself, let mechanic do it for you.

different bike I know (Tiger 1050) but I recently had it lowered 40mm at the back.. this was not equalled at the front, the front was only lowered by 19mm as I recollect and the suspension was adjusted accordingly all to suit ME  ,, this bloke did it..

the lowering at the front on mine was done simply by dropping the forks through the headstock

Givi Airflow a must, Givi Airflow and a Madstad bracket even better, foot peg lowering kit  :thumb:. If your lowering the rear then lower the front 15-20mm max by pulling the forks up out of the top yokes, and think about fitting a fork brace.
