Was in my local Halfords picking up a few bits and pieces when a sheepish looking bloke approached me at the checkout and said "I think I've just knocked your bike over"   

So out I go and there she is lying on her side - oh dear I think here we go. Thank goodness I fitted the Givi bars as they have taken the brunt of damage along with the rear foot pegs, left brake lever and mirror are scuffed too, but the main tank and plastics seem to escaped injury.

Chap has given me his details and asked if we can sort it out for cash...

Will probably get the bike checked over to be sure. Hello ho....

fair play to him for coming to find you though and telling you I'm sure a lot of folks have experienced people just drive off.

Those bars do save the bike from a lot of damage, hope it can be sorted easily.

Word of caution though, the wife had a car run into the back of ours in a shopping centre car park and the woman driver offered to sort the damage with cash. After getting 3 quotes we agreed on one. The work needed doing so we had it done and paid for it. 6 months later after many phone calls, texts and e-mails we are still waiting for the money!!! We looked at taking her to civil court but for less than £300 for the repair the hassle of doing so doesn't seem worth it!
Lesson learnt and insurance will be contacted in future!

I'd probably go through the insurance. He may be honest enough, and obviously could have scarpered,  but when the bill's bigger than he expected he might change his tune.

I'd go insurance once got creamed at the Norwich airport traffic lights by a young girl deciding to pull out VFR pooped.

She contacted Dad I agreed he sort it out, I still limp sometimes through both the leg and my naivety as he totally screwed me cos I was trying to be nice.

Never again go through the insurance

Anyone who hasn't ridden/owned a motorcycle that knocks one over are shocked at the cost of the damage, even when stationary.
I often see their shocked faces, as when they get the bill they think it's just a small cheap insignificant motorcycle, how wrong they are.. !!

Can you just go through the small claims court? I would guess it's breach of contract if they've reneged.

Simon, that's what I meant (I think). Did a bit of looking into it and it only costs about £30 for £300 or less but I heard that the court may not always agree that you should get the full amount! I'm not sure if that's true or not as never had dealings with them before. We did have texts and e-mails with enough evidence to say she agreed it was her fault and would pay but Deb got fed up with it all and wasn't keen on a court case and said forget it!  You can even do it on line now and may not have to attend any "hearing" but she still didn't want to continue.
I thought it was a lot of beer I could have bought but...........
