My 2013 is on original chain at 14k. No sign of the teeth looking  worn and if I pull on the chain at the 3 o'clock position it barely moves away from the sprocket. If your sprockets don't look they the teeth are hooked and you don't have very loose sections of chain I wouldn't replace yet. The service manual will tell you how to measure the chain stretch and services limits.

I changed mine at around 22,000 miles. Do have a Scotoiler though.

Average seems to be around 23,000 miles but the variation is wide. If any links start to kink, red dust is evident, or you can pull the links away from the rear sprocket at 3 o'clock to the point that a gap can let light through, it's time to replace the chain and sprockets.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

I changed mine on my K9 Wee at 14000 MLS as the front sprocket was very"hooked".The rear sprocket and chain looked fine.I did it more than anything because I was off to France and didn't want any problems on the holiday. The bike had 7500 miles on it when I got it,it had been dealer serviced from new,but the state of the bike when I got it home on the trailer didn't give me much confidence in the dealer maintenance. In hindsite I wished I had only changed the front sprocket,as it has a lot more loading on it than the rear and it's a cheap way of doubling chain life.I fitted a Loobman when I renewed the chain and sprockets, what a great bit of kit for £20.The chain has only been adjusted once from new and it has now done 6000 MLS.
