2015 V-Strom 1000 Speed Healer
« on: May 31, 2017, 11:24:10 »
My bike was 7% out on the speedo sat at a steady speed so I fitted a speedo healer. Now it reads the same as my GPS at all speeds and saved 310 additional miles on the odometer since installing it 3000 miles ago. Lots going on under the seat unit but I think it looks pretty neat.  I put the top speed button out of the way so you would barely notice it.

SH-V4 SH-U01  You still need to cut and join wires to fit it as they don't do one specifically for the V-Strom

Starting with the second generation of DL1000, the speed is determined by the ABS wheel sensor information sent to the ECU instead of a dedicated speed sensor. There is no longer a speed sensor connector to separate and plug a speed adjuster device into. The pink/white wire that feeds the speed information from the ECU to the display has to be cut to provide the speed signal from the ECU into the SpeedoHealer or SpeedoDRD and that device then feeds the adjusted signal into the pink/white wire to the display. The four wire device also needs to connect to a black/white earth wire and a white/green switched power wire so you have power, earth, signal in and signal out handled.

Yeah what he said.  It looked difficult to get the plug off the ECU and expose the wires at the so I got them further down the loom where the loom passes next to the subframe:

There are two pink/white wires in that area from the ECU. Make sure to get the one coming off the smaller of the two ECU connectors, the one going to the display, not the one going to the TPS from the larger connector.

so your odometer is now reading very much under.
My ODO is within +0.5% while my speedo is plus 6-7% so will leave it as is. It's gratifying to know some of our infrequent backroads out on the scrub will be where I want them to be. Horses for courses really

I wouldn't say very much under. My stock Glee speedo was 7.2% high. With that corrected, my odo became 4.5% low.

Taken from another site......... "The sensor produces a square wave signal that goes to the cluster. The cluster counts the pulses and increments the odometer every X pulses, where X is a scaling factor for pulses to miles (km). The cluster also measures the time interval between pulses (frequency) and produces a MPH (km/h) value from that, via another scaling factor. The scaling factors are such that, with OEM Tyres, gearing, etc., the odometer is pretty much dead on and the speedometer reads high by around 7%. The cluster has no problem doing this as it's making two separate measurements/calculations. There's no reason that the scaling factors have to be consistent with each other.

Going by this changing the speedo shouldn't change the Odometer?

The speedo healer reduces the number of pulses going to the cluster over a time interval, therefore lowering the indicated speed and also the distance indicated by the odometer. I think you would need to modify the circuits in the cluster (if it is possible) to change the speedo error while leaving the odo unchanged.

The speedo and odo read exactly the same information from the pulses. Change the pulses with a SpeedoHealer or SpeedoDRD to change the speedo and the odo is also changed by the same amount.
