Mine's cable tied to the inside of my Givi pannier rails. Strong enough mounts for 1 can of chain lube, small roll of gaffa tape,  bunch of cable ties, dyna plug kit and a pair of slinky rubber gloves.

I've got three fitted, one behind pannier racks fitted with 3mm x 20mm bar and bolts, two on engine bars with the same bar and armored cable clips.

I've got the tooltube .....

I never found an easy way to fit it to the late, lamented Transalp, and I'm having similar problems with the 'Strom..... no pannier rails (and I'm not sure I need them anyway). I do however have crashbars - perhaps I can use them

I have to ask, other than a bottle of something, what can be fitted in that tube that can't fit in those huge boxes

The honest answer is I don't know. Maybe tools that you want in a hurry, without having to empty all your luggage over the hard shoulder. The one on my DR-Z is used for er, tools :)

Chain lube in case the aerosol goes rogue. Cable ties and dynaplugs where you can find them in a hurry. It's surprising how quickly "those huge boxes" fill up when you haven't got a wife following you round in a bungalow with all your bedding, clothing, food, cooker, etc.......

I only require the basic comforts when touring/camping, I imagine Bear Grylls has a similar basic survival kit.

Double Glazing, Central Heating, Microwave, Shower etc.

Got one fastened to the pannier rails with cable ties.....been there 3 years and not moved. Few tools, tape, cable ties, hiviz vest, bit of rag (stops things rattling) put them in there because the panniers aren't always on the bike.

Used to have mine attached to the back on the panniers on my 2010 Vstrom but since getting this one, attached to my crash bars, holds bottle of pop now  :)

Are these tube things specific motorcycle ones.?
I seem to recall seeing similar devices used for documents attached to containers & trucks, found this one, looks to have an easier mounting option, but no idea how much it is.

Four Jubilee clips should surely fit most others.?
Two types, one big enough to go around the tube, another interlinked figure 8 style, sized to fit around a suitable pannier/frame/crash bar. ????

These tool tubes were originally meant for documents on tractors and before the adventure bike world got hold of them, were available for £5...

I can see the need for tool tubes when you have zero space but on a Vee , Wee & Glee's they have plenty of space under the seat for pretty much all you need .
