Heed engine bars
« on: May 21, 2017, 19:36:07 »
Hi,
I'm interested in getting the Heed engine bars for my AL2 glee. Their website says they're for years 2004-2016. It seems a bit odd, that these bars fit all models. Does anyone have them on their AL2 or later, and are they OK in terms of protecting the side tank panels, fitting etc?
Thanks

Of little help to your question but I've just fitted a set to my Vee and they are superb quality and well worth the dosh. Very robust and made of 25mm tubing not 22mm like most others. Great fit too  :thumb:

I have them on my 2015 Glee. They were tight to fit with the Suzuki lower engine guard (not bash plate).

They fit to the same mounting points with longer bolts provided. I think the earlier model had wider bodywork around the tank so no problem.

HTH.
So how's it going so far then?

I wanted Heed bars for 2017 DL1000 that I expect to purchase next September. At their site, they announce the bars for DL1000 2014-2016. I first thought they would fit 2017 but then understood the beak on 2017 sits lower then on 2014-16 and Heed bars have one cross bar just bellow the beak.

I've sent email to Heed and here is the answer:
"Hello,
We didn't test crash bars on model 2017, so we don't offer them for this version. For now we can't say when crash bars for the new model will be available.
Regards"

Just cut the beak off, it can only be an aesthetic improvement...  lol

Yes, dead easy to fit to 2012 AL2. Joe Rocket's spot on about the front crossbar being very tight on the oem plastic lower cowl. Some have cut plastic. I shoehorned it in. The bars are decent. You will experience some increased vibration, notably around 4,500 rpm for me. Nothing drastic.

To be fair I asked Heed if they'd fit 2012-on with lower oem engine guard (not bash plate!) and they said they didn't know.........

On my 2015 it does but I've cut the engine guard to accomodate. (Thanks Rusty Nuts)

Good kit at a good price and the best looking bars I think, but then I would.....

I also think Heed bars are best looking and best priced but then, they seem not to care much about updating their products or collecting better info about the range of models their bars would fit to.
I understood they are little family business but as they don't care much about their bars, there must be something else they manufacture and live of. Crash bars must be just like a hobby for them.
They repplied to both of my mails with: "We don't know" and "We can't say when are we going to have that information"...
