The wires from the gear position switch are blue, pink and black with a white stripe and have been that way in all countries. Any chance you mistook pink for red and missed the white stripe which could be on the back of the black wire you looked at?

The AC wires from the stator have been either all yellow or all black. Individual stators could be either. Until you posted this question, I never noticed all the diagrams showed them as yellow. Are you looking at anything specifically other than what you just mentioned? You aren't likely to find anything different.

The book I have is for the 2009 model which includes the 2005 diagram as the latest issued. No changes were made in the wiring diagram from 2005 to 2009. The country codes listed on the 2005 diagram are E-03 (USA except California), E-24 (Australia), E-28 (Canada) and E-33 (California).
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

OK
Getting my better half to check all colours from here in ....
My new rectifier has 3 Black wires which connects to the 3 black from the generator.
But it has four other wires . 2 Black with white stripes and 2 red with black stripes.
The wiring diagram shows only two wires... A red and a Black/white.
Does rectifier have a double output and does the red match the red with a black stripe and the black match the black with a white stripe ?
all the best
