I have a 2014 Glee and have fitted Suzuki hand guards and Oxford Heated Grips. I followed the instructions for both, left out the bits on the guards, and it all went back together fine. Don't mean to sound smug but just to say that it will go back together without being loose.
Might go to the H Cafe Saturday, south of Oxford, weather permitting if , anybody wants to take a look.
Cheers

I have only just got back to this. This is the right hand assembly (washer free), should there really be a washer either side of the expander as the nut is flanged?

I forgot it had a flanged nut. The expander and washer look greasy. Make sure they are clean and dry as well as the involved threads. Also make sure the threads aren't binding. I'm thinking the expander might be turning inside the bar as you tighten the screw.

Looks like somebody as used ACF50 inside the Handle bars to stop them rusting.

Just the fact that it had hand guards, which are an accessory, means somebody did some work on it.

True, I was replying to the suggestion that there was ACF 50 in there. It is more than possible that the dealer has greased the assembly.

I fitted Oxford heated grips last year I also have hand guards fitted, and like you mr rat my left hand bar end comes loose all the time I don't think it will come off and get lost as the hand guard keeps it in place, I do what brocket does and turn the bar end while riding.

I wonder if the longer screws that are fitted to the older models would help?

You could do that. You would also need the spacers from the original set the dealer removed to install the handguard kit. The old DL1000 in stock form uses the same parts as the old DL650 handguard kit. The part number for the long screw is 09127-06023.

I find it hard to imagine how that remains rigid and I would have thought there would be a metal or firm rubber collar on the outer end to support the screw/bolt within the handlebar.
It just does not look right to me and screw/bolt looks very short. But what do I know?

I suspect the original short screw has been used and the outer expander has been left out so as to fit it all together.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

Is that a fingerprint I see on the expander? That piece show be a perfectly dry piece of dull surfaced rubber. It sure looks oily.

My left hand bar end comes loose all the time

Further to this, I have also noticed that the left side is loose often, also, for some reason it looks a bit pissed (that means crooked GW  :smirk:). I really don't understand the logic of moving away from the 110mm long screws that were used on the older models. It stands to reason that there will be a stronger fixing if the expander is further up inside the bar.

So, today, after tightening the left side again, I rummaged through my box of bits and found one of the longer screws and added a couple of washers and some plastic spacers.

The difference is instant. Rock solid, no longer pissed left bar end  :fix:

If you look at other glees - mine included - you'll see that many have the left hand bar end skewiff with handguard fitted. Odd.

I was puzzled as to why the shorter internals for a fitment that sticks out further, it seems counter-intuitive. Like the solution, see if the l.h. side stays in line with the bars now. :thumb:
