Twin Exhaust system for the DL650
« on: March 10, 2017, 22:40:30 »
I am speaking to one of our friendly Exhaust manufacturers to see if a twin system is technically viable for the DL650 and to see if they would be willing to make one.

They have asked the very reasonable question 'how many people would actually buy it'?

So, assuming the price is right, who would fork out for a twin can system for the DL650 (imagine, no more envy)?  :smirk:

The firing pulses are staggered. The only reason for twin cans would be appearance. Weight and performance would be contraindicated reasons.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

It's all about filling that gap on the left hand side of the bike for me   :smirk:

More weight and possibly wider luggage. Why would you?

There's a good chance that an after market twin system would still be lighter than OE.  There is no reason for wider luggage.

Pity there's no space for twin pipes under the seat like on a proper adventure bike....

If the weight could be kept down not too bad, but don't need the bike to be any heavier. :icon_no:

to be honest I have no idea why the headers on my SD990 join to become one and then separate again.
I suspect they do join them simply so you just need 1 cat and 1 O2 sensor.

I suppose with a twin set-up the silencers could be physically smaller and still have the desired effect noise wise, and be freer flowing..

I don't know I'd be interesting in forking out too many beer tokens though. I'd guess it'd be £400 at least, likely more?

Would this be easy to do? If it wasn't too expensive I'd go for 2 short end cans, would fill the gap nicely

It isn't good news I'm afraid, apparently there isn't enough room to get a link pipe in safely  :bawl:

I don't want a DL1000!

The new one is silly and pointy and the older one, although a great bike, wasn't what I was looking for when I bought the Glee  :thumb:
