Top Box Plates
« on: March 01, 2017, 09:10:21 »
Going to get a new top box ,either a Kappa KRG46 or KGR52 , for my 2015 Glee.
I have noticed that 2 top plates are available a Givi SR3101 or  SRA3101 to fit these boxes.
Anyone have any thoughts or comments about these plates and they suitability,
I normally ride with the top box on all the time.
Regards
Woody

The metal "a" version is a specific plate for the glee. The sr31 01 is a generic plate with a glee fitting kit. They both have the 6kg load limit. If the top box never come off, who will ever see the dearer "posh" metal one? That said, I don't know if one or the other lets the box sit further back to allow more pillion room.

I used the SR3101 with a Kappa KRG46 box - it was fine. Secure, plenty of room for pillion and a fair bit cheaper than the aluminium alternative. Foolishly, I left it on the bike when I traded it in a few days ago....could have offered you a real bargain! As you probably know, the SR3101 comes with two parts, a strong metal adapter plate and ABS top plate. I wouldn't worry about the nominal 6kg load limit - I think Givi/Kappa are being a tad over-cautious or paranoid about litigation. Just don't fill it with bricks!

Thanks for the comments , reckon I will go with the plastic and cheaper plate , as I always have the top box on the bike and never carry a pillion.
Cheers

So would that be the adaptor plate I need to put a givi monokey M5 plate on my new 650 v-strom. I've got a old givi top box I've had for about 15 years holds 2 full face lids. I've taken it around Europe a few times and it is still water tight and works perfect.

The SRA3101 looks very neat on the bike, worth the extra in my opinion.
I got mine from Sportsbikeshop as I noticed one of the insurance companies was offering a £10 off voucher code for any quote. So I went through the motions and saved myself a tenner. Not sure if anyone is offering a similar deal now but worth a look.  :thumb:

The SR3101 plastic version is on at Bykebitz for £47.24 including postage if you use the forum discount. The SRA3101 metal version is going to be £91.08. The plastic one has the infill which hides the honeycomb nylon, and looks very neat.

Colin, your M5 plate looks like the top of a Wingrack system, and would not really fit on the adapter, and you can't seem to buy that adapter separately in any case.

If I hadn't already got the metal one, and if the top box was going to be a near-permanent fixture, it'd be the £47.24 plastic job, leaving £43 free for... well, anything costing about £43, really.

Here's the metal version to compare visually against DLste's picture of the plastic one.
