Shock(ing) anatomy
« on: February 09, 2017, 20:16:37 »
I don't know if anyone in interested as to what a rear shock internals look like but I happened to come across a knackered DL1000 shock foc, so being an inquisitive type, I thought I'd take a peek...

Stripped and laid bare:

40mm piston with compression & rebound shims:

Blimey, there's some selection of shims....:

The main thing that sets the 1k shock off from the 650 variant is the 1k's internal piston, keeping the oil & pressurised gas separate, note the tell-tale ring of indents around the shock body.

It always surprises me at the attention to detail and construction of what are generally considered low quality items.
