v2 anybody running k60 scouts or anakee3
« on: January 31, 2017, 21:40:43 »
hi all, is anybody running heindenau k60 scouts or anakee3  as looking to get another v2 soon and I just hate the bridgestones and looking at getting them changed before I pick up .I just like the look of the k60 as they seem to suit the look of the bike and can get a set for £152 to the door or anakee3 for £180
most of my riding will be 90% road  I know the anakee3 is the most suitable tyre on paper just want peoples thoughts on the k60 as some people say they seem to last as long as the anakee3
thoughts please

Hi Zippy,
I had Anakee 3s on both my Wee and Veek, I prefered them on the Wee but I didn't get the same feel on the Veek and I feel the Bridgestone A40s are a lot better both with feel in the dry and wet.

I've tried the Anakee 2, 3 and the A40's but I prefer the Michelin road pilot 4 trail but I'm 99% on road/commuting.

I had a double hit with the PR4's I had them done then a week later had the knackered head bearings done - like a new bike.

hi blokes , thanks for the replies ,I have had the pr4 on my dl and a brillant tyre but I want to try something different which looks more in keeping with the bike  as the pr4 look so skinny on the back .might just pull the pin on the k60 if  don't get on with them I can put them in the for sale section

Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2's on mine.  I'm very pleased with them so far.

I've run PR1's, anakee 2's, K60 Scouts, Mitas e-07 and Roadtec 01.

My favourite was Anakee 2's. They suited the bike. A little bit of ability off tarmac roads but didn't take them far off road. 10k on my k6 wee.
Same sort of mileage with the PR1's and the bike felt like it was on rails, didn't quite look right on the bike though being a full road tyre. But that's a personal thing.

The K60's were usable offroad until things got very muddy. Stable but not as sure footed when pushed like the Anakee 2. Mileage was around 8-9k rear.
Mitas e07's were about the same.

The roadtec 01 are not something I will be fitting again. Have squared off and worn oddly on the rear to a point it makes the bike unstable when holding a straight line on straight roads. Wet grip was fantastic, but not worth the trade off. Rear is on 6k and will be replaced very soon as the rear is nearly on the wear bars.

I have a set of A40's sitting in work ready to fit when the workshop is quiet. These get some very good reviews from our customers and are reasonably priced.

I did 17,200 kms on my OE Bridgestones which I quite liked.
Squeezed 14,700 out of necessity from the follow up Continental TKC70s for the same riding even down to the same trips. Both worked well enough, no surprises although the Contis wore to the point of riding discomfort with the scalloped front tyre - and noisy by this stage too.
Have put 2,000 on Anakee 3s which look like my new favourite. I like Michelin tyres, have PR4s on my Speed Triple and the Anakee 3 ran beautifully for my offroad excursions last weekend while sticking like glue from edge to edge on our twisty Snowy Mountains highway. No chicken strips left at all.
If they wear well (no obvious wear yet) I'll stick with them indefinitely. I'd love 20K kms from them.

I have been running TKC70s for 13,000 kms, with 1,000 kms or so of life left. They have been a very good, but am changing over to a set of PR4 trails tomorrow to try out a 100% road tyre on the V2.

If you want 100% road tyres, then it'll be front Michelin PR4 Trail and rear Michelin PR4 non-Trail. That's the setup I'm running for 3 years (DL650 and now DL1000). There is no non-Trail PR4 front for V-Strom. I'm on my 3rd set and I love it.

I must admit to wondering why they call them "trails".  Sidewall construction?
Will be good to hear what you think of them, what with that raised mudguard and all.

I'm curious to know how many kms do you get out of a set of the PR4s?

lol. I don't think they will pick up many stones! The rear PR trail has a different mix of compounds to the others. A bit softer in the centre which is why Bosnjo and others recommend getting the normal road PR4  rear tyre for longer life. I would have preferred trail attack 2s this time, but in the end you take what is available.

Thank you, that's very good mileage. I'll go with the non-trail rear if they have it, otherwise I will get to try out how long the trail rear lasts.

Last one I ordered for the rear (non-Trail PR4), at my dealer, arrived Trail version. I made him send it back and insist on non-Trail. Took one more week but non-Trail version arrived. As me and my dealer are good friends he told me that his supplier always tries to do this trick by sending trail version (rear) because they don't sell it much because most clients ask for non-Trail.
The difference between trail and non-trail is in the type of composites used. For paved surface, non-trail has stiffer composite in the middle and softer going towards the edge. On the edge of traction surface it has very soft, sticky composite that holds you in tight corner. The trail version has softer composite in the middle, then the same one as non-trail towards the edge and then a bit harder on the edge of traction surface. That tyre would last long on trails and resist better the side wall punctures but on the paved surface it would eat the middle of the tyre faster then non-trail and not be that safe in tight corners due to stiffer edge of traction surface.

Not had K60 on my Glee, but am on my third set on my Transalp. Never had any grip issues in wet or dry and they give good mileage. My only criticism is that they are quite noisy.

Hi Jason,
If you're looking for reviews check the Revzilla site with video and customer reviews
https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/heidenau-k60-scout-rear-tyre ("50/50" dual sport tyre)
https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/michelin-anakee-3-Tyres  ("85/15" dual sport tyre)

Mentioning 90% road and adding wet climate don't overlook the Pirelli Scorpion Trail II Dual Sport tyre.
https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/pirelli-scorpion-trail-ii-dual-sport-Tyres  ("90/10" dual sport tyre)

Got the Pirelli mounted and like them better then the OEM. Smoother and lighter handling.
Although 90/10 is my riding I do crave the look of the K60. I passed them last time but the Heidenau will be next.

The non trail pr4 is a lovely tyre, stay away from the trail version, it does not perform or last  on the rear.
