You will need a power comander to get a map on the bike, the ecu can't be hacked.
To get any improvements requires a full exhaust system, removing the cat, and exhaust valve, such as an arrow system, which will deffinately require the power comander,  and a 'servo eliminator' to convince the ecu the exhaust valve is still there.
The end can does not have to be arrow, just the link pipes.
that about wraps up the power improvements you can gain, and you will get up to 12% for a fair bit of the range, enough to make a good difference when riding.

I hope this helps,  look at spending up to a grand.

If you can't keep up because of power, you're riding at unsafe speeds. More often it's suspension, foolishness on the part of the leading riders or just plain skill rather than power that makes the difference. I know a group that meets every year that rides too fast and somebody crashes at every meet. They commonly get separated into two groups after the ride begins. The faster group and the slower group each are a mix of 650s and 1000s. I'm was not foolish enough to participate in those rides.

In a group ride, the ride captain has a responsibility to keep the group together. You don't need a better bike. You need a better group.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Well said GW.
If 100 (or whatever) hp isn't enough, even for very spirited road riding, somethings seriously wrong.

Well said GW. I've tried so many groups and leading bike is always "racing". Never mind the power. So, this last decade I'm riding alone through the mountains. I have a friend that always ride alone as well, for the same reasons. We decided to go out together few times and, again, he always wants to be at the front and he always starts to "race" (Yamaha Tracer 2015). So I gave up on him as well.
