HELP needed.....Glee kickstand
« on: January 06, 2017, 09:42:23 »
Hi

Help needed .....I'm lowering my Glee by 450mm and there could be a problem with the kickstand being too long.

Has anybody else had the same problem and can it be rectified?

Thanks

Some people have bought an adjustable Stand, I think they generally buy them in from America. Your other option is to have it cut and welded.

450mm? That's a foot and a half? Where are you finding all that?

I have a spare shortened one I took off my 08 Wee. I have been meaning to put it on ebay but haven't got round to it. Only good for you if your's is a pre 2012 bike though....and I don't think it would be any good for a bike lowered by 450mm!!!  :)

I had mine cut down by 12mm.

You'll have to have the suspension travel limited too. The maximum safe lowering limits are about 21mm in front and 28mm in back. More than that and parts start banging into each other. You don't want to see this.

Hello mate, just done the same. Bin the centre stand as it will ground out over potholes and fit an adjustable  sidestand from Soupys performance. Took me about half an hour mate. I did get clobbered for 75 USD carriage then another £45 duty and VAT. Get it sent to someone in the USA who's on holiday and they can bring it home as a gift.

Any problem's raising them 45mm from standard ???
The side stand might need a small block under the foot but I never saw that coming with the rear mudguard after lowering it 45mm.

My '15 650 has been lowered by about 25mm which is just fine.
The side stand has obviously been shortened as you can see where it has been cut and re-welded.
Looking at the bike from the side, the centre stand looks quite close to the floor and I am worried that it will be bottoming out, particularly when 2-up.
Do people who have lowered their bikes generally remove the centre stand and fit bobbins and use a paddock stand for maintenance purposes?
Thanks

After having done quite a bit of research, I have come to the conclusion that using longer dog bones to lower my bike probably isn't that great an idea due to the lessening of the ground clearance and the adverse effect on the suspension performance.
Fortunately, the original bones came with the bike, so I shall be putting them back on in the next few days.
Sadly, the side stand has been shortened but I am sure that I can overcome that little difficulty with a little imaginative thinking!

One person screwed a hockey puck to the bottom of the stand.

Sadly, I'm right out of hockey pucks so I shall have to think of something else!

Anyway, just in case anyone is in the slightest bit interested, I am continuing my shall I raise it back up again saga.
I was going to pop out for a little spin this morning just to reassure myself that I was doing the right thing before I put the original dog bones back on.
My bike was parked on the drive and I noticed that it was leaning rather more than the Tower of Pisa.
I had a bit of a close look at the centre stand and lo and behold it had fractured close to a weld on one of the legs. Clearly, this was not a factory weld and it looks like somebody has chopped some metal out to reduce the height of the stand, presumably to make it easier to get it on the stand.
So it looks like I am going to have to purchase a new centre stand as well.
This new bike is not turning out as well as I had hoped.

Firstly, it was delivered to me with an outstanding recall and now I find that the cut 'n' shot centre stand is not fit for purpose.

Not sure what to do now.

If you go back to stock then a new centre stand would be better than trying to repair the existing one. It's a crappy state of affairs, what with this not being of your doing, but only you can decide what is right for you.

If you do replace the centre stand, Cosmo  (vendor's section) does a good one a lot cheaper than the OEM version.
