ignition key
« on: November 23, 2016, 12:49:28 »
Hi
I picked up a 08  Vee Strom 1000.
Bought it from the insurance . it had a small fire
under the seat.
The problem now is do not have  a key. (was not with the bike)
Local Suzuki dealer here in Canada tells me they can not supply
a key , only a blank and I have to remove the ignition and take it to a
lock shop....
Is this the "normal way " ?

That seems a bit extreme to me, my mate bought a Tiger last year and lost a key. Triumph would only sell him a key, and then he had to go and get it cut.
Fed up with anti motorcycle legislation ??.
Then get off your backside and join the Motorcycle Action Group. Protect your right to ride.

Funnily enough I have just read a similar thread on another forum...

It might be easier to take the lock to the locksmith. Some may do house calls but you'll obviously end up paying extra for that service. You can probably take the entire bike, depends on the locksmith and location of premises etc.

Usually you need to get the barrel out so the locksmith can make a key to fit the tumblers.

Perhaps might be easier to find a complete lock set and key from a crashed bike at a breakers yard or from e bay, then change the lot over
