Is rust inside handlebars normal?
« on: November 20, 2016, 22:53:50 »
I had the bar ends on my 2015 Glee off today and the clutch side had a dry rusty surface on the internal spacers and this was also on the internal surface of the bars.
Only surface rust but the throttle side was unmarked and came out a lot easier.
I've cleaned it off but obviously can't lubricate it on reassembly and can't work out how it got wet.
Has anyone else had this?

My 02 vee was the same, just a light dusting almost.

Guess it must be normal for bikes that see wet weather use?

'A light dusting describes it perfectly.' I was just worried that if other older bikes had the same but getting worse over time it might weaken the handlebar.

I'm guessing as the bike leans over on the side stand with the steering lock on that the clutch side is the lowest point and water will naturally collect around there.

I've never used ACF50 before. Would that not stop the bar ends gripping properly?

I doubt it, but if you're worried about that just don't spray the very ends.
ACF is good stuff for other places on your bike besides, especially now winter's here.
