do these bikes seem like a good buy?
« on: November 20, 2016, 12:05:03 »
Hi all,

Looking to buy my first V-Strom (Glee), returning to riding after 15 years and not much of an expert. I've seen the following ones online in my area:

1) http://www.motorcyclenews.com/bikes-for-sale/Suzuki/DL650-v-strom/3412598/
2) http://www.motorcyclenews.com/bikes-for-sale/Suzuki/DL650-v-strom/3411542/
3) Or I wait until the 2017 model comes out, but really itching to get back in the seat... I wouldn't be suprised if I buy a used one now, and then sell it in a year or so and get a new one - the used one will help me be certain that I am indeed back to biking (and that this is the right bike)

Do the prices seem right for the specs of the above two bikes?

Thanks

The second one has to be the better bike as it doesn't have a silly beak, however, they are both overpriced. There are better deals to be had.

If you are just looking to get back in the saddle, why not look at the older model? You can pick one up with less that 20k miles on the clock for less than £2,000 if you shop around  :thumb:

Thanks. The main reason I'm not looking at older models is that I'd like to have abs.

The older model does come with ABS, 2008/2009 I think.

I'm worried about buying through ebay without seeing the bike, so prefer a relatively local dealer. Then again, I probably wouldn't really be very good at assessing the bike when I see it, so I suppose there's not much difference buying online... I guess it comes down to trusting the dealer/seller, and maybe purchasing a separate warranty...

Contact the seller and ask to view before you buy,if they say no,walk away.Ask if someone on this forum will go with you to view if you are not sure.I am sure there will be someone who will help, this includes looking at dealers bikes. Ian Mc.

A Brand New unregistered beakless 650 with a 3 year warranty for £5700. I'm speechless!! You'll kick yourself if you miss one of these SDuck, it's not much dearer than the 5 year old (almost) one in your first post.

A duck without a beak

Looks weird

Don't be dissuaded by the dinosaurs,  :icon_no:  the beak IS the future  :thumb:

You don't want a beak on a decent bike might as well ride a Harley  lol

Hi Sduck, You're probably better of waiting for a good privately owned bike to pop up on the forum or ebay.  Your two suggestions are priced on the high side but if you're desperate to get on two wheels the dealer may accept an offer.

As above, the above suggestions seem pricey - even more so if you intend to part ex within a year. A lot depends on whether you want a great value bike & a bit of time/searching/hassle or a few quid doesn't matter to get a bike asap, every one is different.
DL650s are plentiful & not in any way exclusive so it's not worth paying ott for one IMHO.
Stock bikes are basic with a capital B, so look for one with extras fitted that you'd like

Don't discount bikes away off if you get decent pics etc, it's about £100-£150 to get one delivered from halfway up the country.
