« on: November 03, 2016, 18:58:26 »
Five ways to make the perfect glee
1/ fit a rear Nitron shock
2/ fit michillin pilot road4/ trail tyres
3/ retro fit 4 pot tochico callipers with brembo red pads
4/ drop forks 18mm and fit a fork brace
5/ fit scorpion carbon serket parrallel exhaust
These 5 improvements have drastically improved an allready good bike into a VERY good bike.

Is that racer handle bar tape you have on your rear grab handles?

18mm - is that safe?
Mine are dropped 10mm and there is only about 5 or 6mm before the dust seals touch the bottom yoke on full compression.

Can you adjust the Nitron OK in situ without a hpa?

It's interesting that you upgraded the shock & not the forks (or have you?) which are the poorest part of the bike (closely followed by the shock!)

Nice mods btw :)
Where did you buy the Nitron, which model & how much if you don't mind me asking.

Phil

The tape on the grab rail is anti-slip roll [bought from poundland] cut into 2" strip and wound on. It works wonders for the passenger grip.I still have clearance on the front forks but I have put heavier oil in plus reduced the air gap. The preload is set to 2 lines from max. The rear shock is a Nitron SPORT SHOCK and cost £390 direct from Nitron. When you order it you need to know your overall carrying weight so they can calculate what spring to fit. You can get them with a remote resersvoir to make the adjustment easier, but it is still possible to adjust in place. You find that with a quality shock fitted you don't need to keep adjusting like on the standard shock.

You won't beleive the difference these make untill you try one.

The tracer is a great bike, but I am talking about a vstrom. There are lots of superior bikes out there if you have the money.

The Tracer's a great bike with a cracking engine but the weakest parts are the suspension. Go on the MT-09 forum & loads of them have changed the forks & shocks. Manufactures have to cut costs somewhere to keep the prices of bikes down & it seems suspension is one of their favourite areas!
But at least we can buy a cheap bike & spend a few ££ tinkering with it to get it just how we want it.

Cheers SV1000, I may invest in a Nitron. They get a good name.
Nice to know a hpa isn't essential.

Have you done anything to the forks?

Hondaman, I have dropped the forks 20mm, reduced the airgap by 15mm and put heavier oil in. The preload is set to 2 lines from max. Hope this helps. Don.

Vstrman. Anyone of the three will be fine. I've had hyperpro and Nitron before, liked the Nitron best because of the linear spring.  Depends on your V-Strom too, with 650 or older 1000( I think) you can have the sport Nitron at about 400quid but if its a Veek they only do the adventure shock at 515, where as the hyperpro can be had for under 400.  If you carry a pillion lots Nitron have half price hydraulic preload adjuster if you order this month ( November)

I know a couple of experienced riders with Nitron who think they are brilliant, they look very nicely finished off to but Wilbers do have a 5yr warranty which may be helpful, I have heard they (Wilburs) tend to have slightly firm/sporty bias but can't confirm personally.

Thanks Porter, I'll have a look at the Nitron, half price pre load adjuster sounds good.
