What to be expected from 2017 Vee2?
« on: September 24, 2016, 09:42:11 »
I've spent quite some time on the internet looking for informations about 2017 model. It's because I plan to trade in my 2014 DL1000 for 2017 DL1000, sometime in the second half of 2017.
Informations I found are so controversial that I really don't know what to think. I found "reliable" informations that 2017 model is coming with VVT engine, LED lights etc. Then, other "reliable" informations say only new colors are to be expected.
Is there any real information around?
Should the 2017 models revealed in Cologne this October be the final answer or Suzuki may reveal nothing there and come with new model later on?

Doing major changes 3 years after a previous major change would be very much out of character for Suzuki. Figure it isn't going to happen and you can be pleasantly surprised if it does. You won't be able to purchase a bike for months after you'll know what changes have been made anyway. The Cologne model will be very close to the production model, probably identical.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

I've heard rumours about a Suzuki DR1200 I would be interested in having a test on that if it came to fruition.

I have been told by my dealer that Suzuki work around five year cycles and as such not to expect anything before 2019 model year for an updated 1000. Frankly I was disappointed that recent tweaks was a black exhaust and very little else, I would have thought the addition of cruise control at least. I think that the 650DL will be uprated sooner as it's getting long in the tooth, imagine an 800cc with uprated brakes and suspension! that would be my choice. So we may see some movement in 2018, for me though any chance of buying a DL1000 in the future is very slim as I have fully forgiven Suzuki for their awful attitude towards the ECU issue.

CandyFloss,
that would probably be my attitude as well if I had ECU problems but in my case it was completely opposite. I was warned by my dealer more then a year ago that there was upgraded ECU and that it will be replaced on my bike. At that time nobody even knew that there was new ECU.
So, I have excellent dealer that has never questioned any warranty issue on my 2014 DL1000 and he is most probable reason I'm sticking with Suzuki.

I hope the bike stays the same for next year and even the year after!  Means I'll not be tempted to upgrade and my might be worth more (not).
Not sure the 650 will go to 800 as that would push it to close to the 1000, unless it goes to 1200 that is!
The bike shows will be starting in a few weeks time and all over mid November so I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I'm not convinced about the 650 going to 800: Suzuki don't have a suitable 800 - the VN motor is no good as a starting point. They've spent a lot on the 650 to bring it up to date for the new SV, so I'm expecting to see it continue. The 650 motor doesn't seem to take big bore kits too well so it would need such a substantial redesign that it would be a new build, which costs £££.

I reckon there is more chance of the 1000 becoming a 1200 than the 650 becoming an 800.

There were rumours of a 250cc at one point too.

Revealed to-day the uprated DL650 V strom at Intermot, now we're talking, a sure fire winner in my opinion.

Seen the pics of new DL650 (definate mini Vee2), looks really good. Don't know about the yellow though. Probably easy to find at bike shows/meets.
How many will update to the new look?

This bike will be on my short list come 2017. I upgraded from a 2012 DL650 to the thou. The 650 has such a sweet engine and I thought the new 1000 would be that and better, wrong! Not saying I will buy it as others need to be test ridden but upgrading to a newer 1000, not a chance. Once bitten....

I think the new 650 looks a hell of a lot like the Honda Cb500x. Those wheels are almost identical.

I'll not be upgrading to the new 1000 either
Yellow paint is not an upgrade in my book!  Some good bits, handlebars,  corning abs, new beak but same old wick screen and seat and no doubt same lumpy engine to! I would consider the 650 though,  I want a smaller lighter smooth bike next time but only if the price is right

Porter, get ready then for a plummeting trade in value for you Strom, if it isn't already bad enough!
I agree that the engine is just plain wrong for the bike and the 650 now being the better option all round. I can even live with the beak on it.

The local triumph (KTM and Kawasaki) dealer is an absolute TWAT of the first degree. Would under no circumstances buy anything from them ever or go to them for any work.

Just to add regarding the 650 and 1000 engine debate, having ridden both 650 for 6 years and 1000 for 2 years, granted the 650 was on my old K6 Wee, I would still prefer the 1000 over the 650, I found I was flogging the poor 650 around europe mainly due to the luggage and weight I was carrying. A very capable engine, but to the point where I was starting to use oil in the mountains and on long stints on the Autobahn. My wife and I toured around Austria on the 650 Wee which it managed well however no we find the bigger engine capacity pays for lazy torque and better road manners. Also when your out with lads on bigger machines you can keep up with them!  :thumb:

As for the new 2017 Veek I've read the engine now is totally ride by wire, good bye throttle cables, which in itself opens up to loads more engine management options and the ABS braking system has been revised to give a rear wheel biasing and improved performance when cornering/turning. The beak has been slightly restyled which looks more retro. I think the yellow looks the dogs nads and If I could afford it I'd be looking at 1000XT...But that will come..for now I'm more than happy with my 2014 Veek 12000 miles on the clock and plenty more to go at :thumb:

Judging by this, all three colors will be available for XT and standard models, and screen has been redesigned and tested in wind tunnel. The screen doesn't matter to me, I'll stick with Givi Airflow.
