Dipped headlight stopped working
« on: September 19, 2016, 09:19:13 »
As per title, I had a nice long ride yesterday and at some point the lights stopped working,

Bike, 2002 DL1000.

Fuse,  OK

Light switch on the dash interrupts the power to the fuse, is that right?

No power out from the socket at the bulb end.

Grabbed the loom on the right of the rad (as you look at the front of the bike)  where the 2 plugs are, a flicker of light.

Wiggled some more and the light stays on till you move the loom again but the plug got almost too hot to touch, unplugged it and cleaned it, all looks OK.

Are there any well known points where the loom is likely to rub and short out along the way?

Thanks in advance

James.

I'm back off outside now to see if I can see the yellow plug, I hope it's that causing the issue as my wiring prowess falls shy of anything more than checking and cleaning plugs haha!

OK after removing the tank and airbox, the yellow plug terminals look to be in great condition, I've cleaned them and lubed them,

Further wire twiddling seems to be the plug at the front in the fairing is to blame but it looks quite reasonable in condition too

*edit...

The front plug is definately to blame, the terminal for the wire feed is loose in the plug and a different colour to the rest, I've jammed it for now but will have to Re make the connection and probably fit a relay too, just to be on the safe side.
