Diagnostic tools
« on: August 05, 2016, 09:52:31 »
Do I need a special diagnostic tool to set the TPS on an 2005 KLV? I see on youtube a bloke setting this on a TL1000 using a tool/switch to flag up idicator bars on the clocks.  Is there an easy way to do this without a diagnostic tool?

Why don't you pop over to INTRODUCTIONS while you wait for someone cleverer than me to read this :)

A paper clip will do for a special tool. http://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,7061.0.html

Put the bike in dealer mode and a good TPS position will be displayed as a -C00 at idle. The dash on the left is an indicator. It should be in the middle at idle, between 1100-1300rpm, and never go low. Turn the throttle up slowly and the dash should pop to the top position between 1500-1800rpm for a Vee or KLV. It takes about a half second for the dash position to properly reflect the TPS setting so move the throttle slowly or even hold it and wait. It is a very fiddly adjustment. Just tightening the TPS screw can change its position.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s
