Veek headlight adjust
« on: July 28, 2016, 22:11:09 »
I'm finding that when Sally gets on the back, and with luggage, the dip beam is way too high, even with the shock wound up to max.

Now I might go for an upgraded shock with damping adjustment and more spring, but I also looking into a mod to permit headlight adjustment without removing the dash panel.

Anyone else had a go at this before I dive in?

It would, I think be a usefull thing to just be able to twiddle a knob,  or even get an allen key through the dash to save time. :)

Suspension adjustment should handle the situation. Maybe you are running too little preload solo. Otherwise, you need a stiffer spring on the rear. You want the same suspension sag regardless of load. Of course the added weight might be beyond the design capacity of the bike. I can say that because I'm too far away to be worried about thrown objects.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Thanks Greywolf, I think I'm just overloading the spring rate loaded, easy sorted with a heavier spring, but I do feel the need to adjust comp damping when loaded to be honest too.

I will budget in an upgraded shock, but do like the idea of being able to adjust the headlight more easily, so will look into fabricating something up.

I'm riding solo on the 16th click, fully loaded and with aunt Sally I'm on the top two clicks of preload, and it's wallowing a little, and sitting down on the level.
