20,000 miles what is needed?
« on: July 27, 2016, 10:21:37 »
My Strom has now covered 20,000 from new. It is a 2011. I have changed the oil and filter regularly, air filter and plugs have also been replaced along with chain and sprockets. My question is; what else should I be looking at doing/checking at this millage?

You don't say which model but a start would be:
Valve clearances checked, brake fluid & coolant change, lube caliper sliders, check, clean & protect electrical connectors.
Belt & braces would be to strip steering/suspension & wheel bearings & re grease them plus fork oil change.

Someone with Strom experience will be able to advise with TPS adjust & throttle body sync.

Not 100% sure of the model. It is a 2011 but it had been in stock a while. I have attached a picture if anyone would like to tell me which model it is.

Many thanks.

Can you do me a favour and upload your image again?

I have added a modification to the Forum which should automatically correct the rotation  :thumb:

The mod did not work. I have tried rotating it as well before uploading and it still shows on it's side.

Hi. Any chance you could give a bit more detail on the 15k fuel pump mod and Fuel filter wix 33095? Any symptoms

The filter that is part of the fuel pump assembly can get clogged, restricting flow.  In lieu of replacing the expensive fuel pump assembly, you can drill a hole in the fuel pump housing that bypasses this filter.  You then need to install an external fuel filter that is inexpensive and easily replaced.  Most people wait for the symptoms to occur rather than do it proactively like me.   The symptom is loss of power and can be verified by doing the simple fuel flow test.  There are several vsri and stromtrooper threads on the subject that make for good reading and note taking.

This is a really good gospel list of maintenance. I have gone through most of it up to 35k miles. Some of it out of choice and some not. I think I may have to try the fuel pump mod as I have had some symptoms as you described them. Thank you

More paranoia than anything.  It's not needed or required on these ngk plugs that already come with antiseize plating.  I take the extra measure because I had a case years ago where the plating was not sufficient on a long life plug.  It's also a good opportunity to just take a look at the plugs.  It is true that some thinner platings can be compromised after a second install.

Putting anti seize on coated thread plugs risks over torquing. NGK has posted a warning against the practice. http://www.ngkplugpro.ca/content/contentfiles/pdf/NGKSP-0907-1R-Anti-SeizeonSparkPlugs.pdf

I used to do it years ago, come removal time the stuff has dried & makes plug removal & replacement grabby.
Like you say the plating is more than sufficient for dry installation.

greywolf, can I get a confirmation that this external mod is still viable please?

When Skillo did this on his V, and I spoke to him personally , he advised against doing this on a Wee, because the tap in point on a V is on the low pressure side, whilst on the Wee it is on the High pressure side??

I have been away from the forums a while, so maybe I am totally outside of my knowledge area, but as yet, I have not heard of an external fuel filter that suits the wee.

Please tell me I am out of date, and need replacing :)

Cheers

The pictures on the modification for K7 and later 650s are all available again. That was the problem before with getting enough angles. K4-K6 Wees have the same fuel pump as the Vee. The mod was never on the low pressure side. It was always on the high pressure filter but some views were missing for a while. Make sure you go to the correct part of the thread for your pump. There are directions in the first post to go to post 231 and later for K7 and later 650s.
