Irish Road Safety Commercial
« on: July 07, 2016, 21:33:38 »
This is a Road Safety "anti-speeding" TV commercial that I saw in Ireland yesterday. It's a really powerful message (which it is designed to be).

Watch it if you want to, but be warned that some of you are not going to like it.

Obviously speeding is a major factor when looking at accidents on the roads, however, the amount of morons I see swerving all over the road texting is beyond a joke  The penalty for that should be a short ban, that kind of punishment just keeps giving, it causes them instant pain, cost and inconvenience and there is a reminder at each Insurance renewal.

I agree with FatRat, short bans would have a lasting effect and make people think twice. Its sad the way so many people can't function without a phone in their hand. I see so many drivers on my daily commute with phones in their hands and kids in the rear...........

The DOE made a series of these adverts with a shock and awe theme.
Road deaths did drop the first year they were shown but are steadily increasing again.
Keep her lit

Good hard hitting advert but I doubt people will listen, it's the "it will never happen to me" syndrome.
Holmsey, have a cruise around Islington and you will see people texting while riding their scooters/motorcycles outrageous..!!

I'm not playing down the seriousness of people talking on the phone whilst driving but surely texting is far more serious (eyes and hands otherwise occupied)?

I worked with a software developer who said he sits in the inside lane on the motorway in his car, with the cruise control set to 60mph so he can WATCH DVDs.  It's OK as you only have to watch out for lorries. He told me I should do it on the bike...

Not sure they work. Its on TV where I can also see Arnold Schwartzeneger machine gun people, Anne Boleyn get her head chopped off but come back as a lawyer next week, people using electric irons to settle arguments over the remote control etc. Feels like fiction.

They have short bans in Germany. Run a red light in Hannover you get sent on a course, then a fine, then a week going to work on the bus, then a month, then permanantly then prison. The bloke late for work because the bus is late gets the attention of his fellow workers better than an advert you might think is for cheese and bisuits ( with extra salt and sugar ) in a tiny plastic tub if you missed the last 20 seconds.

What is maybe more important is real police. The Germans have police who track number plates of those banned. Your wife better carry her papers if you are on the naughty step . West Yorkshire plod is there to hold up speed guns and fight Asian lads who are daft enough to go for a night out in the city centre. They serve no purpose against the texters, drunks, blind drivers, insane drivers etc.

I do believe those adds do work even if they make some impression on at least 10% of drivers is that not enough , road deaths in ROI 2005-395 with an almost steady decline  2015-175  with probably an increase of 20% more cars on the road , and its not the introduction of the points system , I think a lot of drivers out there think that there's a free toaster at 9 points and a free coffee maker with built in digital alarm clock at 12 points,  but on a less morbid note check this 1980's irish water safety add this was shocking when it was released.

check the cloths at 1.36min I'm sure I had that exact t-shirt n shorts

How to stop drivers using their mobiles while driving.

This is great,

I've watched a few of his videos on YouTube.
