Dipped headlights
« on: June 27, 2016, 19:09:35 »
I don't ride at night often or usually in well lit areas but I keep getting flashed by drivers coming against me or people I have passed. I'm assuming I'm blinding them but I drive nearly always on dipped lights. I can't see a thing with full lights on between the super bright blue light blinding me  :sunny: and the angle of the beam I just find dipped lights much easier.

Have other people experienced this?  :ty:

They might be set too high.

I'm due in for a service next week I'll ask them to have a look at it.

Cheers, I just thought it was a bit wierd.

See if they can adjust it with you sat on the bike, that way it will be set for you.
Life is short - You have to enjoy it on a Wee-Strom!

I had an issue with blind in people. When the bike is sat on its stand, all seems great. But once my fat Donkey is in the seat, it lifts the beam a bit higher and I stared dazzling people.

A few tweaks wit the headlight adjustment bolts did the trick.

It's fair to say, the strom has one of the best headlights I've seen on a bike for night time riding.

Really have to agree about headlights on a Wee, try riding a singled headlight BMW F650GS at night on the roads I use, Romney Marsh, compared to the Wee, its like using a candle !!!!
Lights on main beam are like a small car.

Do none of you bother setting up the suspension sag?

I'd be inclined to do that before adjusting the lights.
I'm about to do mine and then re-adjust the rear for my luggage for a trip that starts next week.

Set the sag at each end such that the drop is about 40mm from full extension when carrying the riding loaded weight. Then adjust the headlights also with the bike loaded. Then changing the rear preload to suit a changing load will also keep the lights at a proper aim.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

There's loads on the web on how to set the lights correctly and it's very easy to do. So once you've got the suspension set right for your weight and any luggage then do it yourself.
