Heated grips fixed!
« on: June 26, 2016, 14:32:55 »
So having had the bike for 3 weeks or so now, I decided it's time to figure out why the heated grips don't work,  still summer so no rush really right?

Anyway,

Step 1
Fiddle aimlessly with the switch on the bars, clicking on and off several times, not fixed so on to the next step.

Step 2
Cut all the insulation off the loom just below the bars to check for power.... big job now the multimeter is out!
No joy so next step time.

Step 3
Lift the seat and find the inline fuse by waggling the loom up at the bars and looking for clues, find fuse (right next to the battery you big dope) and squint at the filament inside,  all good so what's going wrong?

Step 4
Put the fuse back and stand staring blankly at the wiring trying to make the grips work using the force instead.... until the penny drops and you finally see the cause of the fault...... whoever changed the battery has put both wires on the positive terminal

Change them back and check the control box, winner! The light comes on and the grips start to warm up!

Take a step back and bask in your manliness knowing you fixed it yourself with no help!

Moral of the story.... no matter how obvious it seems, check the stupidly simple things first hahaha!

lol

Well done! I'm surprised that "using the force" wasn't effective, but correctly connecting to the battery is always a good plan B...

:) You probably only found that by using the force anyway.

I find myself applying step 4 in most of my operations. It's a winner!!

I should scrap all the other steps and just use 4 all the time!
